So...

After a month or so of watching the auctions in japan, I've wired some cash over and have started bidding on skylines ;]
So far I have put bids on 5 cars this week and missed a few gems
R32 GTR VSPEC that went for £5491
R33 GTS that went for £4861
I only just missed the R33 by a few £££' and was well gutted as it's frickin nice (except the front spoiler)
I WILL have one soon, dagnammit!

£££'s

Dont forget that on top of them prices you need to add 27.5 %
, (import duty & VAT)

But it's still pretty cheep, though the risk is greater if buying direct from aution as you only get 1 or 2 pics and a rough description.

Those prices are too cheap to be decent cars.

I would expect them to be Grade 0 which is accident and not in good condition, or hail damaged.

Also you have forgotten the extra prices, of shipping, unloading, insurance at sea, MOT, SVA PREP, SVA TEST, FEE to auction buyer, UK registration fee, the duty is on the shipping as well, and the VAT will be on everything.

A car purchased at 5000, will be nearer 8000 by the time it on your drive.

hi all

Hi,

From what i know because both look quite modified they would cary a low grade.

only standard cars get good grades.

ALSO A CAR OVER 10YRS OLD WOULD NOT NEED AN SVA JUST AN MOT.

R32 vspec is a rare car and would be better in standard trim. I would go for a minter if you have the chance rather than a low cost example as you will regret it later.
I only had the money for a 'cheapish' R32 with some mods and am happy with it but I will not be 100% happy until I have had a full respray and that will cost.

Grades

The R32 was Grade 3
the R33 was Grade 4
The grading systems used has very little to do wether the car is standard or not, the final price may reflect the fact that they are more desirable. The grades used are

5 = new condition
4.5 = almost new condition
4.0 = very good condition
3.5 = good condition
3.0 = average to poor condition
2.5 = very poor condition
2.0 = bad condition
1.0 = flood/water damage
0 or -1 = accident damage

So from that I would expect the R32 to have some bodywork needing attention and some mechanical trouble...

All in all though it's a darn site cheeper than paying £12K for a 94 GTS!

SVA & Auctions

SVA info http://www.roads.dft.gov.uk/vehicle/sva/sva4/
I'm sure there is more out there.

The only Auction house I will use is http://www.ibcjapan.co.jp
as we have had 3 cars from there before all very nice (except the truck, which was nice when it arived untill my step dad got his hands on it and thought that his truck was harder than a tree ;] )

I anyone knows anyother auctions though it may be usefull to collect these and set up a set of links related to purchasing, importing, insuring... e.t.c.
