The stock Ecm controls torque reduction via the throttle plate and ignition retard but its reaction speed is very slow due to the time it takes for the throttle to adjust to reduce torque
So what's the benefit of OEM traction control systems using a throttle plate given that it must be a lot simpler to just control ignition and fuel?

I know some cars have (had?) a secondary plate just for the traction control.

Emissions and catalyst protection.

Cats hate misfires.

Usually if you find an OEM strategy that looks over-complex, emissions/component protection/noise/economy are the reason.
