Hi all,
I hope I can get some help here, I have tried looking through all the previous topics, have read the FAQ but I am still after some more information.

I currently have a Evo VI Makinen, have previously owned a VI GSR and a UK Scoob. I have a bit of experience with 4x4 turbo's and my next purchase was going to be an Evo VII. Well, after having seen T6KYO's car at Trax2001 and at Castle Combe previously (that car is awesome by the way), and also having chatted to a fellow Scoobynetter who has also just bought a Blue R34 GTR, I have also decided to take the plunge.

I basically need a crash course. Is there anything I should know about these cars straight away? I am buying second hand from a Japanese auction via a very reputable buyer (can't afford new) and I have sent a deposit off so hopefully, all things going well, I should have one within 2 months. Are there any known problems with the R34 V-Spec? Any reliability issues? Also, what are servicing costs like and how often? Can any Nissan dealer service them?

Questions, questions. Would be very grateful for any tips and hints for a newbie R34 owner (to be...).

Thanks in advance for any help.

Although I can't comment on the servicing charges in the UK, the GTR is a very solid car and hardly nothing ever goes wrong with it. Obviously if serious modifications are carried out, like all other cars, things will start ot go wrong.
Unlike the Evo the GTR can be taken to very hi power levels without spending a fortune. Also, as you will discover, the handling is simply superb and totally different from the Evo you are used to. Since the drive is mainly rear wheel, it feels very adjustable via the throttle and is a lot trickier on the limit than the rally brigade!

Anyway, the Skyline never disappoints!;)

Blow dog, so this is your next project! (glad u got that Tuscan idea out of your head!)

Good to hear from you, you won't be disapointed . I picked up the R 33 last night. A little different to the STI 5 but a little work will sort that out.

Seems to be quite a few from the Scooby fold making the move from Boy to Man!

34 Purchase

Blow Dog

Thanks for the kind words re my 34. Makes you feel good when people appreciate the work you put into your motor.

As for owning a 34 I can't see any probs. They've been out for a couple of years now and no horror stories have filtered through. the only problem I ever had with mine was finding a DECENT garage where I could have the car looked after. Not just for tuning but for being looked after as a package. I wouldn't recommend using a normal Nissan dealer. Not that they are bad but you do need a specialist.

I personally use AbbeyMotorsport (as do loads of others) because as mentioned above I receive a TOTAL package from them. They have been tuning, servicing, repairing, painting these cars for approx 10 years. Also they can source ANY part you may want. I am not driven by cost alone but by service and you must bear this in mind.

The only problem I have had with my 34 was when returning from Le Mans earlier this year a lamba sensor went. No probs though got it changed as soon as I got back. I did do a little post on that about the benefits of the 34 MFD when I got back.

Well look forward to seeing you at the next meets. If you don't have the 34 by the Dyno Day etc., still come along.

See Ya.

Glen.

Hey,
Thanks for the replies.

Glen,
I actually waited around for you for a while, I was with Richard (of Escort Cossie fame) and Rob W and Jean Marc all day, they said they knew you so I was hoping for a chat at some point. I certainly hope to see you all soon, even better, I hope to be in a Skyline by then.

Ian,
Well, as they say, it ain't over till the fat lady sings. Unless I have the car keys in my hand, I haven't done it yet :)
I haven't told anyone about this at all, so I would appreciate discretion on Scoobynet :D

A few questions, I would be grateful if anyone takes the time to answer them:

  • Does anyone have any idea how often a service is required on an R34?
  • Does anyone know how much a service would cost on an R34?
  • Can 2/3 people sit comfortably in the rear?
  • How big is the fuel tank?
  • Are they as sexy as they look?
  • Whats your mothers maiden name?
  • Whats your blood type?
  • Who am I?
Many thanks,

Cem

1. 6000 miles - though if you're going to track it, changing oil more frequently would be nice.

2. No.

3. Yes

4. Small but probably not as small as the Evo. I get sub 200 miles on a tank.

5. No, they're more sexy

6. Let me tell you about my mother *BANG* (Sorry, sad Blade Runner quote)

7. It's not blood, it's a petrol/alcohol mix.

8. You are what you eat.
