Most of you will remember Mark Apsey who, sadly, died a little over a year ago now. Following this tragic accident the GTR Register and GTROC raised a collection to give to his family. Their wish was that we put it back into the club and do something with it. Not wishing just to put it into the club funds we decided to commission a trophy, which would be an exact replica of Mark's car.

Since the middle of last year the GTROC Board have been trying to work out how best to award this trophy and for what. The award ceremony itself will be held at the pub where Mark was born and his family will be there with us. Claire is arranging this so please watch out for the announcement and please make an effort to attend and support Mark's family.

The Board have decided the award should be more than just a trophy, handed from winner to winner each year and it should have some value. In addition to winning the trophy the winner will also be granted honorary life membership of the GTROC (subject to agreement at the next AGM)

The trophy will be awarded to the person(s) who has made the biggest contribution to the GTROC. It will be a recognition of the efforts put in over any period. The GTROC Board will nominate people for this award and it will be up to members to vote for the recipient. We have not, as yet, set a cut-off date for voting but it will be near the meeting yet to be arranged.

The nominations for the Mark Apsey Trophy are:
Paul & Sue Creed
Scott
Andy Hornsby
Jason O
Dino ("DCD")

Paul and Sue have for the past three years put together a calendar that any club or professional organisation would be proud of. Every year they sift through hundreds of photos and then work tirelessly to make them ideal for the calendar. As well as the photos they put together the overall design, work on the layout and even make sure they get a good deal from the printers. Their work is not done then. They promotoe the calendar both on the forum, through magazines and even on eBay and pack and post every single one to countries all over the world

Scott is probably the hardest working Board member. As well as managing the members database and ensuring membership packs are distributed on time he also does a lot of administrative roles for the Club. His main role is more than that. He spends a lot of time sourcing quality merchandise for the Club, be it coats or key rings, and he ensures everything is fully vetted and quality assessed before we say yes. Everything the Club stands for is about quality and Scott makes sure everything we sell or distribute reflects that.

Andy Hornsby is one of a group of events co-ordinators who works very hard to put on events we can all participate in. He is the first one to put his name down and is always looking for new tracks for us to try our hand. In addition he is always o hand to lend advice and support and his enthusiasm is there to be seen. His driving skills aint too shabby either! Even when not driving himself, Andy is always willing to help and probably spent more of last year's TOTB on the floor helping people with their cars than he did actually watching the event.

Jason has a list of roles for the Club and fulfills them all well. He is an advocate and an ambassador for the Club and spends a lot of time on other forums where he is always keen to promote and support the GTROC. In addition he runs the Club's library which is no mean feat. The library is extensive and Jason has taken great care in documenting everything available and is always on hand to help. His moderator role, though not a GTROC role, ensures the forum maintains a high degree of quality discussion. His commitment to the Club is plain to see and his enthusiasm to help is very obvious to anyone that knows him or has met him.

Dino "DCD" may not live in the UK like most of us, but that we immediately all know who Dino is or who DCD is says a lot about him. As a moderator for the Register he has ensured the forum maintains a high level of expertise and does not allow it to descend to a low level. He is always on hand for information and advice and is a great advocate and supporter of the Club. Many of his photos have been used by the Club in the past and now and , though he does this for a living, his time and his photos are something he has given to the club.

I hope you have taken to time to read the above and I am sure you all have an view on each of the candidates. I am sure you also all feel other people should be added to the list. I would agree with you, I could probably put up 20 names without much effort. However, I am sure those not on the list would agree with the final shortlist, which was developed after much discussion at GTROC Board meetings.

This will be an annual award and every year we will look long and hard at those that have made the Club what it is. That we could have 20+ names on the list shows just how strong the Club is. It also says much about the huge group of people who really make a difference and how the Club is all the better for such a large group of helpful and dedicated people.

To everyone not on the list I would like to thanks you for all your efforts over the three short years that we have been in existance and I hope you will continue to work for and support the Club in the future. Thank you. :)

What a FANTASTIC idea ... first and foremost - as a way or remembering Mark and ensuring that he will not be forgotten, and second - a great way to recognise efforts of those in the club.

Indeed a great way to remember Mark. Only the other day i was looking back through the letters from Marks brothers and family members. They were and always have been very much in favour of the Club doing something like this, as they know it was Marks passion and lifestyle.
I am actually choked to even be considered for this award, so thankyou for that.
As John has said, so many people do such a good job for the Club, so well done to all involved i say.

Kind regards
Paul.

Thanks guys!!

It is truly an honour to even be thought of!

I too have had him in my thoughts and his lovely family! They were so proud of him and all he had achieved. I think the meet would be a wonderful idea, and bring some pleasure to his family who were so welcoming to us at his funeral. His family were keen to celebrate his life and all that made it special. I often wonder if the little doormouse made it?

I look forward to the meet, and seeing any of the family members who would like to come along and join us in celebrating his life.

I think his brother Peter said the nicest thing, when he said to us, that although it was not really an occasion for a cake, us turning up to say farewell would have been the icing on it!

Let us know Claire of the dates, and we will be there!

I dont know if that will do any good, 330 odd people have viewed the thread.
I hope more will vote.
Its just a shame we cant vote for more than one person.
And has anyone else noticed that there is one persons name missing:confused:Personally John i would have liked to vote for you, but maybe next year :)
But there are many who work very hard for us all.

I've voted for my choice.

But I could only base my decision on my 12 months as a GTROC member. My thoughts are that all of the candidates would be worthy winners.

Excuse me Claire, but I cast my vote over two weeks ago !

(and for once my decision was not based solely on who was most likely to buy me a drink .....)

and I would be honoured to attend a meet to commemorate the life of a fellow Skyline owner.
Please keep me informed of the date for this meet.
