Anyone got a preferred supplier for methanol?

There's plenty of places on ebay and I've seen trinity research selling it but I've heard a lot of rumours about dodgy dealers selling non virgin methanol.

Thanks!

For example: -

Go to ebay uk and use the id 261498826992.

Sorry, can't post links, too new to be trusted.

This looks pretty good value to be honest but I guess the issue is whether or not to trust that it is virgin methanol.

Sorry, not sure I understand how I've made a massively disappointing thread. Have I broken some rule? As far as I am aware, methanol is legal for race use however if I'm mistaken, please do correct me.

I think it is just the GTROC humour… :chuckle:

When people read the title "Meth Dealer", I think most people are thinking of a Class A drugs. :runaway:

Like other said, PM Ludders, he should be able to help.
If there are any "Meth Dealers" in the UK, I am sure he will have contacts with them.

haha, sorry, definitely didn't mean illegal drugs.

I understand the humour now, pretty dumb on my behalf. Can't seem to change the thread title from meth to methanol so I guess it's staying put!

There's a guy called Walter White who used to sell it in large quantities. Not sure he's around anymore though.

I used to get it from a guy in Peterhead who supplied cleaning chemicals, lubricants and the like to boats, local businesses etc.
It was a good few years ago now but I'm sure it was only around £60-70 for about 5 gallons.
He ordered it in for me and it was classed as an industrial cleaner I think.
He runs a local car wash as well so it might be worth asking one local to you if they can help :)

For your information I have arranged discounts for the Club Members on Racing Fuel and Tyres. I only supply VP racing quality methanol as I would not trust my engine to any cleaning materials or other questionable sources.

Currently there is only the top level of methanol racing fuel available. It is called VP M5 and comes in barrels containing 204ltrs. It costs £475 - but using the customer code GTROC you will get 7.5% discount. There are of course shipping charges depending where you live. Shipping is not cheap as racing fuel/methanol is classified as dangerous goods and is handled only by specialist transport.

M5 is simply the best performing methanol on the market. With its upgraded combustion additives, M5 will make 5-7% more power than standard methanol, while offering the same or better protection against detonation. M5's improved vaporization offers a wider acceptable range of air/fuel ratios and tuning. It also yields faster combustion speeds which lead to closer EGT's from cylinder to cylinder, providing more consistent performance from run to run.

Cheap VP Race Fuel and Track Tyres.

If any Club Member needs help or advice on using racing fuels please do not hesitate to contact me by PM.

So if you saw numerous bio traders on ebay saying 80p per litre of virgin methanol @ 99.98%, this would be considered risky due to the amount of people selling recovered methanol as opposed to virgin? The car isn't actually running pure methanol but uses a kit for the intake temperatures.

I'm really looking for 20-25l packages as I don't have the storage space for large amounts at this time.

I would not touch any fuel that was not specifically designed for racing. The quality of VP race fuel is such that you can test the fuel at any time even one year apart and the fuel is exactly the same as before. Try that with any other!! You can buy cheap stuff but how much does an engine cost?? There is little point trying to save a few pounds to get an enormous bill!!

If you are prepared to take a drive out on the M40 I have one small can of M5 you can have. It is the only one in the UK until the next shipment arrives from America. It costs £80 but you get 7.5% discount so you pay £74.

Send me a PM if you want to come and get it.

Cheers.

Jeff
