I have to be carefull what I say and what I recommend but if the car was here and if the motor was in good condition, personally, I would have no issue or concern with tuning it to 600hp. It would get regular oil changes and it would be warmed up and run down correctly each time it was used and I'd be confident you'd get good milage from it .

Rob, I noticed most of the engine pics you show appear to be RB20DET or RB25DET. In your experience, do you find these engines have some advantages over the RB26DETT? Also, when you say stock internals do you mean some minor upgrades like rod bolts, oil pump, etc., or completely untouched longblock from the factory?

We have used RB25's for some customers and RB25 heads on RB30's, all with good results, the RB26dett is a superior motor allround though.

best of 10.2 done with a totally stock unmodified bottom end, original rods and bolts, original used pistons, original pump etc.

If its set up perfectly 100% you can have a nice stock internal of around 550 or a bit more maybe.Trouble comes with who sets these things up ,alot of so called experts dont know what they doing thats why they go bang :runaway:

If it's all down to a specialist top dog to carry out the mapping and tuning, who can be thoroughly recommended. My gtr r33 has done 63k miles. Is this too many miles to transform it to 450 - 500 bhp atws.

make sure that your oil system is up to the task. you may want to fit a bigger oil pan, and oil restrictor in the head if you going over 650bhp.

the stock crank... well i'm not convinced it can go past 700bhp reliably.

Nicolas Kiesa has built monster R34 on stock bottom-end. Think he can comment very well on this aspect, as his crank apparently held together but there was play on the big-end bearings as they were worn down from the high rpm.

What about rod bolts??? You'll be needing ARP to run very high boost. Stock bolts??

My guess is the max is around 550bhp on the stock motor for something thatt is reasonably reliable.

I don't intend to track it regularly, maybe twice a year. Looking realistically at 450 bhp. a fast road car. Have up rated greddy oil cooler and big standard inercooler. Would the intercooler be man enough for the job. Would a quality re-map be enough or would valves need uprating etc.

I have a stock rb26 motor. How much boost can it take if i installed bolt on hks gtss turbine kit. Can I take take it to 1.2 bar or can the motor take more on stock internals?
