You've probably seen my thread entitled "Just fitted Power FC to GTS25t"

The car is running well now, a lot quicked on 1 Bar, a lot more fun to drive! The car was fine for a couple of weeks after mapping, but now whilst running full boost, at about 4500rpm I get a squeel which is getting louder as time goes on. Is the bearing in my turbo moaning or have I sprung a leak? On 0.7 Bar the noise stops.

This is the spec of my car:-

Super dragger
decat
75mm front pipe
HKS pod filter
Greddy iridium spark plugs
Apexi PFC
Hand controler
Boost kit
boost up to 1 bar
Mapped ar RBs

Anyone any ideas

What sort of squeal? Does it sound like an electric drill? If so, my car seems to do that sometimes and I have thought nothing of it. It seems to make some strange noises when the boost is on

Does it do it all the time?
Does it do it from cold or when it warms up? May be "just" a blowing manifold gasket. These can make metallic squeal like noises as they go sometimes.....

I don't know if it does it when cold, I never give the car that sort of stick when cold. The squeel is quite high pitched and happens right on full boost (1 bar) when the the power really kicks in. Running the car on lower boost stops it, It does'nt smoke blue or white and I'm not loosing any boost. I'm tempted to replace the turbo, but what if the squeel is still there when I've done that. I took it to a turbo specialist in Nottingham and they could'nt give me a positive answer.

If running 1bar try going down to 0.9bar as i know some ppl on the rb25det are lucky and seem to manage fine, well others have horror storys.

Try asking down on skylines downunder as they have a huge wealth of knowledge on the gtst.

I think you use Mr.Bell as well don't u? If so why not ring him or relay a message via steve as i'm sure u'll get an answer then.

Ive asked Rod and he was the person who mentioned there could be a leak, I cant find one though, unless it is coming from the intercooler. Ive tried .9 bar and the noise is still there, but not so bad. Rod has asked me to let him have a look, but its a long way, Thought I might get some answers from here, looks like the best bet though.

Check all the intercooler hose connections, jubilee clips etc are tight.

Ive checked all the hose connections in the engine bay. including the rubbers that disappear through the inner wing. Are there anymore connections the other side.

if this is any use mate, but my sapphire 4x4 of a few years back had a similar thing.

The turbo would sort of give out a high pitched moan/squeal on full boost, which was 1.6 Bar (on a T3 ), dropping back to 1.4 Bar.

Gareth Howell of Atford who looked after the car for me thought it might happen, as we were just asking the turbo to do it's boost limit, and the turbo was the original unit.

A shiny new T4 sorted it mate !

Hope it's just a leak, but I've got a feeling you'll need a new blower mate.

Anyway, think positive. If you do, it just means you'll have to get more power to use it to the full .

Are you sure the squealing is coming from your turbos? I have heard cases of squealing noises caused by a blocked/restricted cat converter.

Im Back!
Hi All
Im back from Lanzarotte and been to Rods today, and have found out what is causing the squeeling noise. Its coming from the exhaust manifold where it bolts onto the head, whats happened is a stud has snapped, GTSts are prone to this as the manifold expands and contacts with the heat and eventually snaps a stud, great!

Luckily its not a head off job and can be done on the car with care, but the exhaust manifold and turbo has to come off, approx 8 hours work.

Whilst its off Ill either fit a larger turbo or have steel internals put in mine with a bigger compressor wheel. Soon the turbo will need a refurb so nows the time.

So it was something simple after all, just a pig to get at!

At least I can drive it now without worrying the the turbos going to wind up in the exhaust or the bores! Im sure something good will come from it

Yep,
Broken exhaust manifold studs are a common fault on RB25DET engines, it's usually the two outer most one that go first

No Green its not a big issue on the Rs, just a constant pain in the **** on Ss :-(

I was asked for info on a feature on GTSs, the question was, "what are GTSts weak points"

I could only come up with one ............ bloody manifolds, grrrrr
