hellooooow bro's

Need help on choosing twin turbos direct replacement on stock manifold. I am aiming for 600HP. I've heard that Garrett GT2871r and GT2860r turbos would help me to achieve that. Specially GT2871r -2, -4, -15 & -10. I am really confused which one to go for as they almost provide the same amount of power. So is there any other twin turbos from other manufacturers that will help me reaching my goal such as HKS? BTW, what is T25? Is it the size of the turbine end that connects to the manifold "the square shape thing" which has 4 bolts? what is the size of stock R34 RB26dett mainfold?

search button is best fren for newbies like u and me bro

wat ive learnt
direct fit garretts

707160-5,7,9,10
but i tink 9 smallest then 7 then 5 then 10

-5 is like hks 2530 and most favorite of rb26s - 600hp is ezy m8

-10 or gt2871r = hks gt-rs, too big for most rb26s...unless for drag or stroker engine

so u want 2860-5 bro

i agree, -5s would be ideal for an rb26
they are not laggy...i had hks gtss turbos which is the equivalent & they were great!

I did a search a while back and decided all these were suitable upgrades for me, not wanting to rework internals etc. and keep the boost under 1.2 bar for about 400 atw bhp:

  • 2860-7
  • 2860R-7 = N1 turbos
  • 2860R-9 = GT-SS

I'm happy to be corrected if anyone wants to - and I'd like to understand where godzirra's list fits in with mine.

good info...
2860-5= 2530s
2860-10= gt-rs

apparently my car has 2540s, even bigger compressor wheel than -10s but same turbine wheel...gonna run them on rb30 lol

-7s that I have bought are down as 600 bhp as a pair, I'm looking for just over 500bhp when i'm back on the road, I'm hoping for spool up as quick as standard or better as I have added GTR34 elbows, and the modified twin turbo pipe

I have -7 I dont think you'll be seeing 600bhp with them. I'd have thought 500bhp would be about the limit on them maybe 530bhp pushing them hard.

You want the -5 for 600bhp

-7's/-9's

I am thinking with the right headwork, forged bottom end and E85 (or even race fuel on the track) if you might see close to 600hp at the engine with -7's or -9's?

When you think about it, people with -5's and a basic forged engine are usually around the 600hp mark at the engine on normal pump fuel.

It would be interesting to see which would be faster around the track.

edit: and you wont have to rev it as hard!

I have 2860-7 (BNR34 N1s) and they gave around 460/470bhp at 1.4 bar.

Car has standard head, cams & pipework, but prob not best map, hence why it's being rebuilt now :(

I'm hoping to get very near 500bhp at fw (420-430 at wheels) after rebuild with a few tweeks and good map, but understand 1.4 bar is about as high as you can push -7s.

With cams & headwork you'll get a bit more power but nowhere near 600bhp.

Cheers,

As said before 2860-5s will give 600 as long as the other appropriate mods are done .
They max out at about 640 usually (though of course someone has always got more)

AFAIK 600 is not realistic with 5s and if you could get the engine there the turbod would be on the absolute limit which isnt good.

I have 5s on my RB26 stagea which has over 500 at the wheels .
Comes on boost 3000-3500rpm with with silly torque from 4500 - 6000 rpm

2860 -5 / 2860 -9

So Now what are the main difference between those turbos..?? because I already made my final Decision to get a set of GT2860-5s but after reading all replies, I really got confused now what to buy!!!

2860R-9 = GT-SS

2860-7 = R34 N1

2860-5 = GT2530s

As I am aiming to go above 600hp with proper mods. and i dont whanna throw money on turbos that I will reget at the end

hmm, lets see; the above replies all point to the 5s. I'd guess going for 5s would be best for your goal.

keeping in mind your power target of 600hp your only choice is -5s and as suggested above u need the right supporting mods, i wouldnt be too concerned about how the garrett range are aligned with hks although it is good to know...u could go -10s which are rated at 800hp combined but quite laggy on a rb26 for the street

100% agree with this after having investigated the issue for months. I went a different route for numerous reasons (Tomei B7660), but ultimately, I was not looking for 600hp at the crank. Bear in mind (as others have posted), for this level of power there are a lot more supporting mods that are required to achieve any form of reliability (very subjective, but consensus/experience appears to be 550 ish absolute max without opening her up, in addition to the array of "bolt-ons"). Hope this assists.
