I have just spent £3,000 on head strip/rebuild, when we picked car up, we were told there was a slight noise from the head (sounds like a lifter). Well hardly any distance driven and the noise developed into a loud tapping, I had a good mechanic I know look at it, and he reckons it's lifters and I should replace them. Rang round several specialists and they laughed and said "it won't be that, it'll be bearings" (bottom end).
Is it at all possible it could be lifters, I was told by the specialists that they never give problems on the RB26.
It's quite confusing because I was told by the garage (specialists) that there was a slight knock "from the head, probably lifter, that will need sorting soon!!" I don't know what to do at the moment. You would have thought that if anything else had seemed wrong, that the specialist would have noticed and told me when the head was stripped.
Can anyone shed some light on this for me please?

Cheers.

Hi

As you're in Surrey, why not pop into Abbey Motorsport and ask them to hear the noise. If it is a lifter, I am sure they will know. We can all surmise what it could be, but without being next to it, it is hard to be 100% sure. It is unusual to be a lifter though

I don't really want to drive the car as it is, so not sure what's best yet.
Is it at all possible to have lifter probs though, if so, what can go wrong with them?

Hi Sepp

The thing is someone needs to be next to it to be 100% and Abbey are the closest is it a rb26 or rb25?

Hi sepp

Is the noise there all the time or when you just rev the car?

It's there all the time but louder (tappier) when revved.
I think it sounds a bit like someone tapping an anvil with a hammer when revved.

You could post a video/audio file to enable better arm chair diagnostics.
