Hey there guys, I've been on here now for a couple months since i got my GTR (http://www.gtr.co.uk/forum/135664-2000-uk-r34-gtr-v-spec.html) so thought it was about time i properly introduced myself, well my car!!***8230;

Unfortunately I think its fair to say, without getting into fisty cuffs, that Jons idea of "immaculate" and mine, are worlds apart!! I've already told him what I think!! enough said!***8230;

Anyway I must have been desperate enough to have one, so i payed the man, and, i feel, rescued a very-much unloved GTR! So here i am now, Hi, and thanks to those who have already welcomed me, and offered help and advise with the increasing work load!

Thought I would start this Thread inspired by reading the threads started by northstar34, GT4 Addicted and others to cover the ongoing work,(i've just finished up a long contract in Germany 12 hour days and lots to do) the car is now at FQ. And i now have time to write something. Feed back and advice always welcome!

Day one of ownership!***8230;.

It's not a good picture but there was smoke coming out of the gear gator!! The Syncros were obviously fu*ked, crunching from 3rd-4th but only when hot and very significant at high RPM! Just wasn't expecting smoke! Not a good start, Baptism by fire perhaps!!! lol Anyway an hour in a Halfords car-park confirmed that the cause was almost diffenently down to the last mechanic carelessly spilling transmission fluid all around the stick and not wiping up!!

Naively thinking I would be able to have the gearbox rebuilt in Germany i checked all the levels were good and continued to drive home!

Journey home was fine, no major dramas, but its quite clear the map is awful! dyno print shows 324.4 wheel HP, don't think so!!.. Nothing happens below 3000 rpm and it just felt a bit flat and lifeless!***8230; My 2 tonne 740 feels a lot more sprightly!!

The chap i use too work on my other cars is an expert mechanic and holds a doctorate in engineering, a real perfectionist and meticulous with every detail! And i thought, was no stranger to modified vehicles, for example he built a 600ps mk1 golf GTI using the VR6 and all the drive train from a Golf R32***8230; Yes 4 wheel drive!! Problem is he has never worked on a Nissan and he's "computer specialist" put him off! they don't have the software!

The local Nissan dealer couldn't even find anything wrong with the Gearbox!!! Idiots!!***8230;. So i couldn't resist asking if they could at least run diagnostics! Would have loved to have been in the workshop as the mechanic realises somethings amiss!! (PFC, don't think they'd seen one of those before!!) i decided after a few distress calls here and there best, and only solution was to send it back to England were a "professional" could do the work!

Short of it is, unless you actually have "a Golf" nobodies got the slightest clue where to even start! Lucky i got European recovery!!

After talking with lots of different technicians, i felt confident and reassured by this list of experience of Lee at FQ:
"Just a bit about us and our experience.

Suzuki JWRC Team Sub Assembly/Transmission Department Manager
Hyundai WRC Team Transmission Department Manager (3 years)
Hyundai WRC Team Damper Department Manager (3 years)
Hyundai WRC Team Lead Technician on Kenneth Erikssons Car
Hyundai WRC Team Lead Technician on Juha Kankkunen Car
Ralliart WRC Team Lead Technician on Richard Burns Car
Peugeot BTCC Team no1 Technician on Paul Radisich Car
Peugeot BTCC Team no1 Technician on Tim Harveys Car

The above is just a small portion of what I've done in the past as well as
my colleague who has spent the last 5 years as a no1 technician on the
Suzuki WRC team

We both compete in motorsport up to world level so we understand customers
requirements from road driving to out and out competition

Im going to have a look at some of your requirements today and get back to
you with some costing."

After my car finaly arived the box was then stripped, it was clear that the syncro rings were just worn and fortunately no metal particles were found in the oil! The problems shifting are a result of aggressive bad gear changes during the last 60,000 miles! 10 new syncro rings, plus seals and gaskets etc. ordered through Abbey motor-sport (thank you very much) are still on there way and should be with us now in the new year!! Even Middelhurst could'nt help with this!

Its a beasty!!!

Sorry for the pictures, supplied via email on BlackBerrys. I haven't seen the car now sience the middle of October!
