What weight engine oil do you use? Is there any truth to the claims that light weight oils (0w20) reduces bore and ring wear and give better fuel economy (which seems like a win win)?

Manufacturers list a recommended oil for a reason, 0-20 are you sure? You want to halve the recommended weight of the oil when its hot?

The theory, as I understand it, is that the new lightweight synthetic oils lubricate the bores better and remain in the hone marks in the cylinder hence lubricating the rings better. Heavier oils get washed away with the fuel giving less lubrication.

Thinner oils give more power but not so great in a wet sump or with an oil system that is not optimised for high power heat control.

And that theory comes from these guys who build a lot of the V8 supercar engines.
Hmmmm....Comparing a 650bhp+ Normally Aspirated V8 Race Car Engine that is only really built to last for the duration of one Race before being completely stripped down and fully rebuilt before the next Event verses a 540bhp+ Twin Turbo V6 Road Car Engine which is designed to last over one hundred thousand miles plus during all sorts of driving conditions over a ten year or longer lifetime is NEVER a good thing to do IMHO!

Its the age old "Apples v's Oranges" scenario once more....:runaway:
