OS Giken STR2CD with billet aluminium cover for R32/33

Low mileage unit with about 7K miles on it but swapped out for an exedy twin plate due to slipping a week after i got it back from bodyshop and needing a clutch at short notice - long story!

Guys, loads of pms about this clutch so i'll try and clarify a few details.

My car (430bhp) ran this clutch for about a year 7K miles with no slippage whatsoever but it started slipping about a week after i got the car back from the bodyshop. I didn't investigate what was wrong with it as the mechanic could lay his hands on an exedy twin plate clutch at decent money.

I've no doubt the bodyshop abused the clutch as this has happened to me with an evo i had years ago, but couldn't prove it so tough titty. I'll open the clutch up tonight and check the wear on the plates. If they are fine i guess the springs might need replaced.

The clutch is a push type and is very smooth around town with a really light peddle and a cool jingle noise rather than a scraping sound like a lot of other competition jobs. tbh i wish i'd kept the clutch as the exedy is a bit cheeky!

Rod Bell fitted the clutch and would be the man to speak to about replacement parts.

Guys, opened the clutch tonight and its just the two plates that are worn with no damage to anything else.

I'll check with Rod Bell tomorrow on the cost and availability of the two plates.

yes they do, not much friction material left on them, looks too flat

they are worn almost to the limiter. there is about 1mm left on one side and 0.8mm on the other. any more driving on them would prob risk damaging the separating plates which are as new.
RB Motorsport say new plates cost about £200 +vat each which is pretty much par for the course.

mate they should have over 4mm of meat on them new.

you should measure yours to check they are actually new.

i have this clutch in mine if i remember correctly, good clutch, mine is running 550+ and no issues.

had to replace the clutch cover, two plates and all bits, cost me £800 all in from RB, the springs went in the cover plate causing the clutch to run on the release bearing wearing the plates out.

was very hard to diagnose by looking at it, tweenie didnt even notice when he looked, until it slipped its tits off.

bump for a good clutch! very usable on the street.

Just to clear any confusion up in case anyone thinks they might have to spend 800 notes on this clutch - it does not need the cover replaced.

It will require either two friction plates at £200ea or a refurb kit at about £480 max.

I'll take part exs on an oil cooler, coilovers or brakes
