I took my car to have a chip repaired in the windscreen. I was made aware that there might be a "slight" risk of cracking the windscreen due to its proximity to the edge. Sure enough it did.

I've arranged to have another one fitted tomorrow morning on my way to Europe (as you do).

Is this normally a straightforward job or do some of you have some horror stories to impart?

Jack, just make sure they fit a Nissan OEM screen as the others are a nightmare and do not fit properly.

Also make sure they don't damage the A pillars or the paintwork.

Bob and John, thanks for your contributions

By the time I read this, the windscreen had been fitted by Autoglass (Admiral's preferred repairer).

It seems ok EXCEPT when I was driving down the A11 shortly afterwards, I was aware the rain sensor function didn't appear to be working when I ran through a few showers. I may not have had the stalk in the right position but I did fiddle around with it a bit. The fitter mentioned that the windscreen did have a rain sensor on it. However they did rush to get the replacement on the overnight delivery.

Windscreen seems ok and the rain sensor works. After 3 long days of driving and visiting some friends, we're putting our feet up and playing happy campers at Luz St. Saveur at the foot of the Col du Tourmalet (a Tour de France stage, I'm told).

We've done the Col de Gourette and the Col d'Aubisque which were quite good. For the most part, the D roads have been very good. Only had 1 x 13km stretch that bore any resemblance to your average English B road.

Tomorrow and Wednesday, a bit of sightseeing. The Cirque de Gavernie, Pont de Napoleon and the Pont d'Espagne.

Thursday we'll do the Col du Tourmalet and then a Pistonheads recommended route southeast from Vielha, Spain (the C28/C13) towards Tremp. Over the next two days, we'll head first for Cardona, then up to Cadaques for a night before heading back into France.

Arrived home yesterday. Crap roads again. In 3000 miles of driving mostly on minor roads, I only found one road from Eaux Bonnes to Argeles Gazost which is south of Lourdes that was anywhere near as comparably bad as Norfolk roads.

Conclusion. It's pointless having a GTR in Britain unless you track it or take it to Europe where they have decent roads.

Can't wait to go back.

Sounds like you had a good trip.

Any particular roads you recommend doing?

I'm planning on going on a trip next summer ( post wedding and pre kids hopefully!). Not sure if it'll be a solo venture or with a group. The Gtroc trip always looks awesome!

Loads of roads. Currently I'll be doing Scotland in September but would go back to Spain if someone else wanted to join.

We are considering lots of ideas. Our tour means limited time and not many people like the idea of the ferry.

Also trying to tie up something alongside Le Mans with GTR LMP1 returning.

Watch this space - it's gonna be good.

I will. I want to go back mid to end of Sept. 2014 for a quick one week tour - ferry costs depending. They're not published until first August. If anyone was interested in joining me, I would consider it.

To qualify you have to be:

1. Old (very old)
2. Go to bed early
3. Not drink

:chuckle:
