I was wondering if the pfc hand controller is actually necessary, it looks a tad archaic next to everything else. But I imagine its probably easier to tune with it. Perhaps there is a less conspicuoius place to mount it?
Also, I can find really good deals on pfcs (used) but they don't come w/the controller, so I was wondering if just the unit itself would be enough.

Most tuners probably use the laptop software to tune, and if you dont have the commander its no different than if you were running a chipped rom anyway ...
So , No, you dont have to have it.

You do not need it. I obtained one at a good price and have had the system mapped properly. With the usual mods like exhaust, boost controller etc my GTR R33 is now producing a genuine 435bhp.

Commander isnt necessary once the cars been mapped.

Useful though to monitor stuff thats going on while you are driving.

Injector duty, Ignition timing, Air Flow, Knock etc
