Hi all, have any of you got pics of decent side mount bucket seats in ya cars? Is the floor fairly flat to weld a metal strip under the carpet to mount side mounted seats in (to MSA blue book regs), and would you be able to refite your original seats afterwards?

Cheers,

can you not fix the alloy side mount tot he floor as per normal, then use a doubler plate on the other side of the floor (under car) to bolt it to. will do exactly the same job without the mess.

Is'nt it possible to use the old subframe, weld a spacer that fits in both seat and the old subframe?
I've done this to a few cars now, when people want these ultra non-comfort seats in their Fiesta (Or whatever), to give it a race feeling.
For most of the time, the results are just perfect - the backseat can be reached and the seats can be adjusted, for better comfort (Or lack of).

Or am I into a total wrong approach to subject?

sold my standard seats now so gonna have to get this sorted. Yeh, I think a plate seam welded on the inside is the way to go Kev, try and bring the floor up to the level of the brace that runs across the car.

I still need some pics though, Anyone?

I have a Recaro SP-G - it is fitted with a Bride subframe that has steel sidemounts built in. Very solid construction and on sliders.
Not sure if it meets current MSA regs though.

I don't know about the R33 but the R32 floor is far from flat, I welded two rails across between the sill and transmission tunnel on both sides and then welded in two rails between them to mount the seat brackets on, there's not much space in an R32 to do this, I expect an R33 to be slightly easier. I had to chop the floor where there's a bulge for the cat on the passenger side too because I wanted the seat as close to the floor as possible.

yeh, that's kinda how my old mk2 Escort was done, easily passes MSA regs. I may weld a 6mm flat plate to the front cross brace to where the reasr seats rise and have some strenghting plates going up to meet it from the floor?
