Does anyone know if there is any kind of dis-advantage to removing the black paint from the inlet manifold/pipes on the RB26DETT ? I was just reading some other threads and it got me thinking, There must be a reason they are painted, and the only reason I can think to paint them black in the first place is Heat dissipation. So surely removing the black would have some effect ? or am I talking out the wrong hole again ;)

Yeh R32 and R33 are painted black. The R34 is just bare metal obviously with the textured casting finish

I've polished stuff like that by hand in the past. I started with 60 grit emery paper to get it flat (so that the casting finish didn't show). I then went on to P120 wet and dry (used wet), followed by P240, P400, P800 and finally P1200. I then buffed up with Solvol Autosol. At each stage, rub until the marks from the previous stage are no longer visible.
