Has anyone here had any dealings with prosopec, I`ve just had a look at their range, quite impressive....but the prices are just totally crazy!!

I mean im sure R32 skylines are going from between £6k-12K in japan? these guys are charging between 19K-44K!! I havent been able to see many skyline advertised in the autotrader, only a few for about £10k....surely these prices are a rip off?

what you guys think?

Hey,

Prospecs cars, although at perhaps a premium, come with a quality that you'd be hard pushed to find from a third party grey importer. They only buy immaculate cars with crystal clear history.

If you are considering a car you could do far worse than have a chat with Shin from Prospec.

I'm sorry but I'm just getting a little tired of people complaining about Prospec prices (especially R32 prices). What I suggest you do is 'DO SOME RESEARCH'.

- First off, the R32 is kind of a cult car in Japan and prices are generally slightly higher.

- Secondly, good cars make good money even at auctions. I saw a 1990 R32 with 35,000 miles, lightly modified but in immaculate condition sell for 1.8millon Yen at an auction in Osaka - it probably would have been slightly higher than that if it was at a Tokyo auction. Cheap cars are cheap for a reason - i.e. high mileage, accident history etc.

- The UK market is different as the demand for Skylines isn't as great. Hence you'll find cheap cars here as people want to offload them as quickly as possible.

- Check the Prospec cars and you'll find that all have service histories and low mileage.

I've just imported an R32 Skyline myself - I would have preferred to buy one from the UK but there was nothing available at the time. I never used Prospec because I wasn't looking for a low mileage, fsh example. What I will say is that their R34 prices are very reasonable and I may in fact use them in the future when I upgrade to an R34.

Rip off may be, but early days!

I visited the site when buying back in late summer and yes they seem a bit expensive and this hads been commented on before. One thing I can say after meeting Shin the owner of Prospec is that all those cars will be mint with low miles and completely accident free.

I believe that Prospecs relatively newcoming to the UK industry will bring lower prices once the company has found its feet and seen what the UK Skyline market requires.

They only recently managed to get there incredible MINES R 34 back on the road after it was brought in from Japan and are presently in the process of finding a premisses to conduct their business.

(Just my view, in this wacky world we live in)

First of all I`m not bashing Prospec, so dont start to jump on the defensive.... they have an impressive setup, and is prolly the best source for good skylines ive seen in the uk....I was commenting on their prices....

Ian you`re right the prices are too high, but they seem to know their skylines, and rest of their services seem impressive. I also had a look at the zele international where they get their cars from? their prices are high....well they are bringing a lot of cars into the country so its a good thing, so hopefully as time goes on the cars should become cheaper.....yeah the R34 prices seem quite good..... but R32/R33 could be a better....but what is the profit margin per car?

My biggest regret was about 2 yrs ago i brought a 93 supra, which was crap! had previous damage to rear quarter..i think, as the roof was cracking etc etc...but after i made a deposit, i saw a nice 1993, R32 vspec, for about 11K, from mvi-services.com........if only!!:(

Price

Hi Mr fondmetal,

Thank you for your comment.
At first, it is required 10% duty and 17.5% VAT for the vehicle when we sell a car.
When you see the Zele's website, you can roughly calculate the UK on-the-road price.
Of course, the price includes customs clearance charge both in Japan and in thr UK, freight, shipping insulance, registration cost and so on.
Anyway, GTR32 is still very very popular in Japan, and especially, GTR32 V-specII is very rare and it has premium price in Japan.
Please feel free to contact me if you have any question about not only our cars but also our prices.
Many thanks.

Yours,
Shin

Don't get me wrong, I'm not trying to defend Prospec but just pointing out that R32 prices are distorted because traders are bringing in crap cars to the UK. You still seem to be missing the point because their prices reflect what the going rate is in Japan ? Go to an auction and the very best R32's (regardless of age) will be making more than 1.5 million Yen. The MVI services Skyline you are referring to was in fact a 1991 non-vspec car, I know because I have dealt with them on a couple of occasions and I am in fact a UK reference for them also (please note that this car had no service history).

Bottom line - you want a cheap R32 either get one from the UK or get a high miler or grade 0 from an auction. I had access to over 10 auction sites and yet it still took me over 6 months to find the right car (even that was a compromise because I was getting a bit desparate). To claim Prospec R32's are overpriced is laughable - sure they have to add margins to their stock like any other dealer but I think their prices are reasonable. If you want to here about expensive - I know of one UK importer who sold a car for £15K and made a £10K profit on it.

The mvi services skyline was a 93 model, as i remeber it was a v spec, even if it wasnt, still the price was good....that was about 2 yrs ago now.......

ok, fair point, about the r32s being priced high due to their collectors value

So you recently brought a R32, and you have been looking for 6 months, what sort of prices were you coming across?

eg, a 1991-93 GT-R, or a 93-94 GT-R V spec? for a car of no lower than a grade 4..

I`m not questioning your research, as you`ve brought one, I`m too thinking of buying an R32 GT-R when my finances allow, soon I hope...

We'll have to agree to disagree on the MVI Skyline as it was a long time ago - I seem to remember that it was originally posted as a 93 model but when I emailed Mark later he said it was actually a 92 or possibly 91 - I can't actually remember now. I could tell you more but I'd sooner discuss this kind of stuff face to face rather than on a public BBS.

Anyhoo, with regards to prices - like I said before it depends on the condition more than age. If you're looking for a Grade 4, low mileage with service history then you're looking at around 1.3-1.5 million Yen upwards. Cheapest GT-R I ever saw was a modded 1990 car which went for 600,000 Yen, it hung around for ages 'cos it kept failing to make it's reserve - it had engine damage and every panel on the car was marked as replaced as it had previously had F&R damage. Late model vspecs start with high bid prices so I don't reckon you'll get much change out of 2million. These prices are based on my experience 6 months ago but I've been told that they've firmed up slightly due to the recession in Japan.

"6583 1994 GT-R TURBO BNR32 35,000km silver Manual 5 Speed 4 1,680,000YEN Not sold"

Thats about £9k for the grade 4 R32 itself, so lets say £700 odd for shipping, about £500 or so for fees etc etc, about £900 for import tax, +£2000 for vat, works out about £13K or so......

when i`m ready I may just have to go over there and see for myself..........

Doesn't that say 'Not Sold', presumably because it didn't meet reserve ?

I shipped my R34 from Tokyo last June and shipping and insurance etc was more like 2 grand not 700 quid. I think SVAs just got a lot tougher too.

I'd say more like £14.5K. To estimate cost you should use this formula:

(auction price + auction fee)/exchange rate + shipping *1.3 + SVA fee = rough UK price

which equates to:

1680000+100000/175 + 600 *1.3 + 500 = 14.5K.

Bear in mind that according to some import agents R32's are hard to SVA unless you buy a near stock example. So potentially you could get stung for a lot more than £500 for the test.

Commercial Post

Hi Shin

I wouldn't say your post was 'commercial' at all. More like informative which is good.

At the end of the day ALL your signatures carry the Prospec name and after all you aren't the only one. A few others here who are/aren't even tuners support their/chosen company on their signatures/avatars so I don't see a problem really and I shouldn't think anyone else does either.

Just keep giving us the good info Shin.

glen

ps. Those GTR books that you gave me at the Grasshopper I still have. I did speak with your man Rob on the day and mentioned that I didn't know whether you wanted me to sell them or give them away. If you did want me to give them away I don't feel that I should be responsible for that so next time I see you I'll give them back. Or if you did want me to sell them, how much ????.

Hi Glen,

How are you?
Thank you for your advice about my post.
By the way, about the brochures, I would like to give someone at the Grasshopper Meeting that day.;)
Sorry for without explain.
So, you can use them as you like, or you can give them at N.London Meet.;)

Shin

R32 prices.

On the question of prices,

If its any help I bought a genuine tip top '91 R32 with full history and
25km on the clock 3 years ago for 26k.

I thought that was fair. Since then prices have fallen, but so has the
quality from what I have seen. Tired cars with lots of problems.:(

Buying a quality car has meant 3 years and 45,000 miles completly
trouble free and it is still in far better condition than most!:D

Doesn't pay to buy cheap!!!
