What is the significance of the exhaust temp gauge? Apart from saying that its f*$#ing hot in there.

With my limited knowledge, the hotter it gets the leaner you are running and hence it's good for spotting detonation if you are running too hot. Not sure what the optimal temp is (Gary @ GT-Art mentioned that 870 Deg. was optimal) but I've heard others say it's okay to go above that.

Exhaust gas Temps (EGT) are valueless unless qualified by other information or the 'other information' is already known.

To avoid me being seen as the site smart-ahse/know-all I'll let someone else fill in the parameters bit.

Gary/Mario/Abbey will have all the knowledge at their and (for once) they can't really 'fall out' over it.:D

Over to you guys!

EDIT
..at their...what? I hear you say...well...fingertips...yeah...thats it!
(sorry)
