It's mostly that everything in the car is in Japanese, plus the 2008 model was only available as an Import and had the harsher launch.
From 2009 model onwards they were officially imported to the UK.
Sat Nav became standard about the time the "59" reg cars came out.

Bare in mind this is based on the USA model year, which is not the same as the UK model year.
What they call a MY12, we call a MY11 for example.
They like to make the cars sound a year newer.
