Looking through the back window, it looks like there's a roll cage in it - so you couldn't even use it as an estate car. It's really weird what they've done...

The idea is often referred to as a Shooting Break. The idea was that a quality car (say an Aston) would be used as the basis for a vehicle you could pop a set of shotguns in the back of and set off for a 'sporting' weekend.

They tend to look as 'good' as that one too.
