This topic has already been discussed in the old forum mainly about using a uk tv tuner, and I believe we came to the conclusion that since the MFD needs an NTSC signal input it would not be able to work. I'm not sure if this applies to sat nav system....anyone else??

Is there a spare input into the LCD display then or would it need to be spliced in some way ?

I'd have thought most satnav systems made in the likes of Japan would simply have an internal switch for NTSC/PAL

Sat.Nav.

Guy

Aren't GB sat nav systems NTSC ? If so at least we could have that as a remote unit for the MFD as they are now DVD-Rom based I believe. Same problem with the connections though I suppose.

See Ya.

An RGB input still has to be either NTSC or PAL...........

But as far as I understand it, an RGB signal dictates the entire signal/picture rather than have the display assume a format (PAL/NTSC) and expect information in that format.

If it took an RGB signal, then it'd take PAL and NTSC (one would hope) - Like most modern TVs..

Video input

Guy,

RGB means Red, Green, and Blue. That’s the row of BNC type connectors that you may have seen on some video players or even on the back of you computer monitor.

The composite signal mostly on a RCA (phono) type connector will be a PAL, NTSC, or SECAM although some modern devices are ‘multisystem’. :)

The last type of Video input you may have is an Y/C or S-VHS.

Could you send me a diagram or even a picture of the socket thats on your car?

Regards Paul.

Scarts

Guy

Thought you'd go for S-Video not scarts.

I'm into the home cinema experience as well.

While we're on the topic of what home systems we have :

48" 4:3 rear projection (most things we watch are in 4:3)
Denon AVC-10SE + POA-T10 Power Amp (THX EX / DTS ES / 7.1 )
Sony CX860D (301 disc changer)
4x Mission M74
2x Mission M7ds rear bipoles
Yamaha Sub
Sony Sub

(Connected via Scarts / Optical leads )

All in a dedicated room of it's own.. and in a detached house ;)

When the door frames start buzzing, it's loud enough :D

Home AV systems

Hey guys.....I'm another home cinema fanatic:D ;)

Currently I have a Sony 5.1 Dolby Digital amp with a sony DVD player
2xJPW 150W speakers
4xSony surround speakers
1x sony centre
1xsony sub
Panasonic 28" 16:9

This is the first sytem I bought....over 5 yeras ago now and is getting quite old. I'm waiting for the new systems to develop nicely, and I have seen the perfect setup:
Marantz AV amp with THX 7.1 output and digital i/o(PS-17A)
5xMarantz Pre-amps (SM-17SA
4x B&W Nautilus 804s
1x B&W Centre speaker (HTM2)
2x B&W side speakers (SCM1)
2x B&W subs (ASW500)

All for a cool 2.5 million yen....expensive but the sound is just umbelivable.

And lets not forget a nice Fujitsu 50" Plasma.....when the prices start falling a little bit more!

From what I have learned from this home cinema stuff, use component i/o for great DVD picture quality, although S-Video offers great quality.
The new D 1/2/3/4 connections here in Japan offer amazing quality with HV tvs.....wonder if it's going to spread?

hahaha... wots this then...

geez and I thought this was a car forum :) Right now some Jazzy tunes are playing through my Klipsch ProMedia THX System (not quite sure how they could put THX label on it with the crap cable included!)

In the lounge:
Loewe 29" 100mhz
Toshiba DVD
Old yamaha 5.1 receiver (which is giving a death hiss in 5.1 mode)
Yahama Mains / Centre / Rear
New Polk 12" Sub

3M projector on occasion.. can you say 150" image!!!!!!! (the whole wall in my apartment is lit up) soon to get a semi-permanent BoxLight projector when one of my friends moves into his new place.

Receiver to be replaced with Denon AVR2801
Speakers with:
Polk bipolar rears
Polk floorstanding fronts w powered subs
Polk Center

My .2bar worth for you guys with HT. I cannot say enough about Projectors. I thought yeah yeah.. projectors.. yeah... whatever.. until I got one into my home and then DAMN. Saving Private Ryan on the wall with the sub rumbling its blessed heart out in the final scenes. Nice :) Funny thing the first thing everyone says when they see the projection going. "Daaammmm....imagine porn" LOL

And to have some sort of car related stuff in here... if ya haven't already done so check out 600+ with Dinos cool pics.

Maybe Skylines and home cinema go hand in hand?

My lounge:

Cyrus AV master
10 more Cyrus amps

Kef reference series 4's with gold connectors
Kef 4 way centre speaker
Kef 3 way surrounds
Rel stadium mahogany bass (coffee table)
Philips 36" flat screen
Pionner DVD

and a few other bit's.....

Had a warning from the council recently about the noise, therefore took opportunity to allow offending neighbour the pleasure of hearing the car rev loudly outside his bedroom window whenever it takes my fancy, not forgetting the fumes (non cat). It's a cruel world!!

Mmmmmm

Home Cinema Sound Off it is then:

Here's mine for what it's worth.

Denon AVC A1-Amp.

Denon AVD 1000-Decoder.

Pioneer DVD 717-Chipped of course :D .

Revox Aluminium Column Speakers X 4.

Miller Kreisel V75-Sub.

Miller Kreisel-Centre.

S-Video and Optical-Of course. Scarts, Guy  .

Panasonic 47" Widescreen Projector 100hz.

Had to buy a semi-detached house with the lounge on the detached side so as not to upset the neighbours.

Next please.

Glen.

DCD that 7.1 is supposedly the next way to go. Have yet to hear it. Have you ??

I might be selling my system soon for I'm thinking of maybe buying something a bit cheaper,e.g. m&k speakers with a dennon av amp, because i seem to have gone off hifi & more into skylines. If i did sell off my system i'm sure Abbey Motors would proably manage to end up with most of the money! :)

If anyones intrested drop me an e-mail

Cheers

t6kyo.....Yes THX 7.1 is the next step!! I have heard the described setup in a shop in Tokyo. The sound quality from the B&Ws is just incredible...and you won't believe what those 2 subs can do. One would have to make sure his house had really good fundations before even considering this setup!!
