Just have to share this GT-R story with a few of you because I'm still smiling about it a week later....

Was driving my new Gun Metal Black Edition a few days ago and instead of taking me along a certain road , the satnav takes me off sooner along some piece of tarmac I never knew existed.

Turns out this stretch of road is almost totally deserted, miles long and much of it dead straight......one week after the cars 1200mile Optimisation, this was looking like heaven.

So....I'm poodling along at 90ish in the fast lane and one of the really basic Ford Focus' comes hurtling up behing me so close I actually thought he hadn't seen me and was going to rear end me at 90. I accelerate to 100ish but no, this isnt enough, he starts flashing his lights at me. Now bear in mind I have the Mrs in the car with me so I cant just drop the hammer and leave him for dust so I gradually accelerate a little more to around 110. Focus man is STILL behind me 10 feet away flashing his lights and indicating to overtake me.

This was not any souped up focus, looked to me like a 1.6 / 1.8 bog standard dagenham dustbin so I'm getting kinda pissed off at this stage and accelerate to 115mph. He's still there hassling me at 115 so I apologise to the wife and say "sorry darling, this guy is really getting on my tits now.....I'm going to boot it"

I look in the rear view mirror and hes about 20 feet behind me doing 115mph still flashing his lights so I just floored it.....................upto 135 / 140 in a fraction of a second.

I looked in the mirror as I pulled away from him and the image I will remember forever was his engine just totally exploding and all of the motorway behind me being totally full of thick blue smoke, one assumes from oil pouring into his now totally shagged cylinders :p

I dont know how well this story translates for you folks as I type it but all I can say is that the idea of a 1.6 focus taking on a near 200mph GT-R is not exactly clever and to try it until you actually blow up your car is IMHO fairly hysterical. I was laughing so hard I had tears rolling down my cheeks.

If all of you enjoy your GT-Rs half as much as I am enjoying mine it will be the best 60k you ever spend.

Have Fun

I think he might have been goading you because he wanted to enjoy watching you accelerate. He probably hadn't intended to race you. Also possible that he uses the road to enjoy a blast in his car and was frustrated at being held up by a car that he knew was perfectly capable of getting out of his way either by accelerating or by pulling in to the driving lane and out of the overtaking lane.

LOL beware of the jail term these days. Better if you steal one and take on the cops racing through a built up area, only then you qualify for community service.

How gutted would you have been if that focus flashed you, you done off at 140+ and it turned out to be the rozzers and they now have your reg. It could happen, that's what they use around here (focus')

comments about Rozzers duly noted but of course this tale was on an autobhan :p I carelessly used the term "motorway" :)

Hi. Read your story with interest, wrote a huge long reply, re-read the thread quickly and worked out that axolotl had said it all already

"I think he might have been goading you because he wanted to enjoy watching you accelerate." YEP AGREED

"He probably hadn't intended to race you." AGAIN AGREED - 100bhp, vs 500bhp odd on a straightline STARTING at 90mph (define a race? lol)

"Also possible that he uses the road to enjoy a blast in his car and was frustrated at being held up by a car that he knew was perfectly capable of getting out of his way either by accelerating or by pulling in to the driving lane and out of the overtaking lane." YEP - agreed

I want to quickly add:

"I dont know how well this story translates for you folks as I type it but all I can say is that the idea of a 1.6 focus taking on a near 200mph GT-R is not exactly clever and to try it until you actually blow up your car is IMHO fairly hysterical. You are frighteningly deluded. "Taking on a NEAR 200 mph car!!!" lol, get over yourself. If you had just floored it the first time, showed him the power quickly, pulled back in to the appropriate lane of the autobahn at 90mph and let him past, he would have given you the big thumbs up more than likely and thanked you for demonstrating the beast as most car enthusiasts with slow cars would have done (I know I would have back in the day with my 1.3 59 bhp escort estate). I remember back then, people with 400bhp cossies, 180mph superbikes etc, would pull out and annihilate me, knowing that all I wanted to see was their awesome machinery go, and the buzz from the noise and seeing real acceleration was/still is, great. It is not about measuring his manhood against yours, he just wanted you to show off what you had. You should have moved out of the way, either, up the road at a proper speed (within conditions etc) that meant he wasn't wanting past any more, or continued at your sedate 90mph and in the appropriate lane lane after completing your overtake.

The fact you really really think he thought he was "racing you" is hilarious. You should have spent the £60k on some basic common sense... and potentially a small dosage of talking to normal people who love cars but couldn't dream of affording a GTR.

RW

p.s. I usually like racing stories however, in this particular case, it would seem that you have missed the whole point, big style :).

Wow! If the stats are right, that was your first post in 6 years. I'll leave others to comment on the tone of your post and get back to watching Simon Pegg in "How To Lose Friends And Alienate People" on Sky. :flame:

No offence intended to Hanni, but I find the whole story doesn't sound true to me and I call BS. It just has that 'made up' ring to it. It sounds like the sort of thing you'd like to have happened. Maybe a bit of it is true, but I get the sense of embellishment ;)

I'd love this story to be true, I just don't think it is, sorry :nervous:

Well some interesting replies and strong opinions. Firstly, the story is absolutely true, I simply couldnt be arsed to make up or embellish a story just to post on a forum. Secondly, I reacted the way I did because I found the other driver to be overly agressive which irritated me. If he had appeared in my rear view mirror and allowed me a second or two to pull into the driving lane before he started flashing at me like a lunatic, he'd still have a car that worked.

The post was supposed to make a few people laugh at the thought of this nutter thrashing his motor to death. Clearly not everyone agrees but to those of you slating me, I suggest you get a life and lighten up a bit.

The other thing that I find curious about Steven RW's kind reply is that he thinks I'm deluded. Now call me old fashioned but is it not possible that all the cobblers about Focus man wanting to watch the GT-R accelerate, admire its power etc is just a load of hogwash. I suspected then and still do now, that he was just one of those really agressive drivers who just has to get past everyone whatever the cost. Like the guys you see driving up the hard shoulder when there is traffic on the M25. To credit this guy with such a fine appreciation of automotive engineering just doesnt stack up. If he knew anything about cars at all and really appreciated them he would not have driven his to the point of blowing his engine now would he?

Steven RW........i think you are the one who is deluded my friend....

......."If you had just floored it the first time, showed him the power quickly, pulled back in to the appropriate lane of the autobahn at 90mph and let him past, he would have given you the big thumbs up more than likely and thanked you for demonstrating the beast as most car enthusiasts with slow cars would have done "...

Most "boy racers", actually believe that thier 1.4 Corsa, with a "pipe" and "K n N" on it, really will blow the doors off your Gtr...

Cars blow up - It happens.

I once had a head gasket blow on a mondeo while I was in the outside lane of a dual carriage way going up hill at around 90ish. That was rather messy.

I've no doubt that that the dick in the BMW or whatever it was that I'd been sat behind for several miles and wouldn't get out of the bl**dy way (he was clearly stuck to the central reservation) was feeling utterly self righteous and smug and immediately went home to post on his forum about how stupid I was for even daring to drive within 200 yards of his vastly superior car. How ridiculous that a clapped out Mondeo even DARE to try to go faster than him?

Why didn't you just get out his way? He obviously wanted to go faster than you did ... is that such a massive problem for you? Some people don't give a t0ss what car you have when you're holding them up ...

Sigh,

I think this is my last post on a subject that was supposed to be fun. I have said before that I obviously would have pulled over if the bloke had given me half a chance before flashing me and tailgating me 10 feet away. As it happened he didnt, his behaviour was rude and aggressive and it annoyed me so I put my foot down and the rest you know.

What would have been funnier was if you did let him past, only to slowly pass him again 5 mins later as he was at the side of the road with his engine blown to bits, haha
