Is this a common problem on ALL R35's or just the earlier MY's?

I'm sorry, no matter how much I love the GT-R, when the time comes I'm not going to sink £40+ K into a nearly new car that has rust issues so early on.

New A45 AMG looks a tempting alternative at this rate.

Like someone said above, the new Quashqi would probably be bought at a similar time too.

Difficult to tell I suppose whether it just an early model issue as it could be another 2 years before a my11 gets to the same age as it occurred on a MY09.

Mine is MY11 and bubbles are there.

Update - had a text from Westover Nissan to confirm mileage now (no idea why, and already told Nissan) so rang them back to tell them.

They were slightly more helpful this time (probably because Nissan UK have been in touch) and asked if I would be able to take it to be inspected/photos and possibly remove the mirror to see the extent of the corrosion.

Will have to see what the next steps are now, already running out of patience though - but that is what they want so they don't have to pay out on valid warranty claims.

Once you see the bubble at the bottom of the mirror the corrosion is already 25mm in size, it's a very common problem.

Update - Westover Nissan called back and car is booked in for early December to have the door done, so that is good news! Just waiting for them to argue the point that it doesn't have full Nissan service history next (part Lichfield), like this would effect the corrosion developing.

My 25 year old 32 is totally rust free.. Just saying haha. This is shocking though. Any ideas on causes?

Not sure, seems a common problem on R35 though so Nissan must know about it. To be fair, once I went direct to Nissan on not my local dealer they have been helpful and efficient. Just hope they do a good job and I don't end up having another argument with the local dealer when I drop it off.

So far I've not had this and I have one of the oldest R35's in the country. its been outside most of the time as well

Its a bit random I think but some of the JDM's don't have the issues the EU cars do

They will do doubt try and fob you off initially. They kept trying to tell me it was only covered under the 3 year paint warranty and not the 12 year anti-corrosion warranty. Then said they needed full Nissan service history as it needs inspecting each year, then tried saying the warranty wasn't transferred to me as I wasn't the original purchaser.

I finally managed to get both doors re-sprayed under the warranty, but took over 4 months of back and forth with the dealer and then Nissan direct. They know it is a problem with the early R35, will just try and wriggle out of it if the can!

I've noticed, when washing my car, that loads of water collects underneath the mirror arm where it attaches to the door. Most new cars have a rubber seal in this area that prevents water ingress. Looks like a definite design fault.

Damn - just saw the same on my MY11.

I had a bubble of rust on MY11 which I had fixed by Nissan. I will have to get the door resprayed again as there is something not right with the bottom corner of my door it's a bit discolored am going to find a good body shop to get it sorted

Well Nissan Nottingham could not have been less interested, told me it needed to have a hole in the metal for it to be considered under the anti corrosion warranty

My local dealer tried to fob me off too, saying it was paint and only covered in first 3 years.

Don't give up, complain directly to Nissan. The car is covered by 12 year anti corrosion warranty.
