hello folks,

i bought a r34. Meanwhile i know the gearbox is the rb20. the original, because it was an 2.0 non Turbo.

meanwhile it has the rb26dett. I bought it, and drove home. round about 2500km. everything fine. everything worked well.

now. 1 day before the MOT. the gearbox "broke" and my mechanic said. it's the rb20 orig. gearbox. and it was just a matter of time, when it breaks.

i cant find a rb25det neo gear box, Manual. this would have more nm and could hole much much longer. and would be enough.

i dont know, why the old Company who build that car/swap didnt used a "better" gearbox. So i ask myself. why? Maybe because it doesnt hold for 200.000km they know it, but maybe for 50.000 km or whatever.

Can you tell me, maybe u know it. If the rb20 gearbox can hold the engine?
because im thinking of repairing the old rb20 gearbox for 200/300$ and make the MOT and drive it home in my Garage. and then maybe search for a good rb25det neo gearbox.

what do you guys think?

best regards.

What state is the engine in. Has it been been tuned?

I dont know what is "W71C gearbox"
If you "Googled" that information Ben provided Meneks, You'd see its the code number for Nissan's FS5-W71C gearbox....Which is the correct terminology for the part you are enquiring about.

HTH!:)

tbh. i did. i always do, but i didnt find any helpful with my language googling "W71C gearbox". So i asked. But as i see now:

you say, the RB20 gearbox should definately go with the rb26dett 280hp stock engine. so maybe i try to fix the old broken gearbox.

But then i ask myself why it is broken. (Pictures --> https://imgur.com/a/ihmtJ )

When it should "hold"..

last but not least, what does HTH stand for?

best regards!

It’s a separate part, basically a prop shaft that connect the gearbox to the rear diff. You will already have this part.

I don’t mind shipping it. If you can forward your location (city and country) I will get a delivery price.

Sounds good. You can talk to me via pm

What does the other people think? Are you all the same mind. An rb20 gearbox with his nm, is enough for a stock rb26dett engine swap?

Did you saw the pictures of the broken gearbox, when its enough. why does it break. Is it "enough" for 10-15.000km or..?

Tabz, if Meneks decides not to take your gearbox & prop can you let me know please. I have a spare RB25DE sat in the garage and want to build up with a manual gearbox before fitting it.

im still wondering, when you think/say the gearbox is enough till up to 400hp (the RB20 Gearbox, from a 2.0l non Turbo HR34) why is it broken?

Do you guys think it has something to do with the OS giken quad plate clutch? the clutch was very hard to drive.

Here are some pics of the broken gearbox.

An Rb20 gearbox is probably on the light side, better to go with a stronger option in my opinion...
Where are you located if I may ask?

yes i searched for 2 months for an rb25det/neo gtst/gtt. But u dont find trustfully people or whatever. 1000$ or more maybe for an "maybe broken" gearbox.
and we want to get the car ready for the MOT. so the car is rdy for the street and my mechanic has one more place for other customers.

Thats why i ask. so i can find/repair the old rb20 and maybe look then for a good one. but at for this time the rb20 gearbox is enough. maybe 10-15.000km?! i donno.

im located in germany. i would send the gearbox to my mechanic.

As an alternative, if you can find a Z32 (300ZX) gearbox locally, the internals are the same as the RB25/26 boxes, you will just need to swap the front part of your RB transmission (bellhousing) which lines up with the pattern on the engine block over to it. A decent mechanic should be able to do that for you.

Thank you Kenecchi. Sadly we already tried to find.
What do you think? Is the Rb20 enough for the rb26dett. And if yes, why could my gearbox break then? (pics: https://imgur.com/a/ihmtJ)
