just had to work this out myself,
its easy mate

1) undo the popper thing on gear lever gaiter
2) a sharp tug of the plastic trim surrounding the gear stick removes it.

3) look under the head unit carriage unit and there are two screws holding the bottom in place, remove these.

4) carefully lever forward the air vent panel and remove connector which goes to the hazard switch.

5) the final two screws which hold th ehead unit carriage assembly in place are now visable at the top where the air vents used to be. remove these and the carriage comes out.

head unit is screwed in from each side of the carriage

cheers

^^ What he said.

I would also put some masking tape on the black vertical plastic trim that goes up the sides from the transmission tunnel forming the sides of the centre console.

When you pull the metal cage out if you're not careful it'll scratch your trim, so I'd use plenty of asking tape around that area.

Just to add to Sean Goodmans instructions; if im not mistaken there is a screw behind the ashtray.

As for getting to the MFD, remove the air vents (as mentioned), then remove the 2 screws holding the MFD surround. After removing them, slightly tug the cover forward, and the cover will come off.

And then you will see 4 8mm screws (with phillips head), and then you will be able to remove the MFD, after un-plugging the 2 connectors behind it. You might want to use a flat blade screwdriver to push the small tab, and remove the connectors, as space is restricted, and the tabs are hard to push by finger/hand. Not a hard job at all

from the picture the whole gear surround should now come out - you might want to check with an inspection mirror & torch that there are no 'additional' attachments from you CF part

yep it did, bit of force and it came.

done the clarion lead on the mfd - that cable was a bit of a bitch to get off!

removed my existing headunit, but it seems the pioneer cables all go back to the footwell using one of their leads to a control type unit, which has input for navigation (not sure where that box is though), tv etc. So going to be a bit harder than I thought! :(

oh and Nito, know what you mean about plenty of masking tape! those little corner bits at the bottom back of that unit! grrr! even with maskin tape, didnt realise it caught. havent put it back in but hope not too much scratches :( otherwise will order replacement bit - any idea where/how much etc?

Yeh i should know about the MFD loom being tight!!!

I haven't enquired about the centre console area, as with any Skyline parts i doubt its going to be "cheap"!!!! I don't know if you've realised but its the virtually the whole centre console

Christian did my mate help you with that lead, or did you source it yourself?

Also, yeh mine has had the radio taken out umpteen times by myself, and i guess the previous owner, so mines in quite bad shape. Im going to speak to these trim specialists next week, and see what they have to say.

Does the clarion cable just plug in, or does it need to be spliced in?

How will you run DVD's Christian, what do you need for it to work? Just an in car dvd player and Clarion lead, what signal is it on?

Thanks
Nito
