I'm booked into litchfields for a service and stage 1 this weekend and need to make the decision whether to go milltek resonated or non-resonated on the y-pipe.

I know this has had plenty of discussion here before but I just can't find any clips of the resonated on youtube other than a solitary clip of a cold start, no clips under load. Theres plenty of clips of the non-resonated.

I think i'm favouring the resonated version as whilst I love the roar of the non-resonated I don't wanna annoy the neighbours they've only just gotten over my old impreza which had a straight thru 3". But i'm also worried the resonated will be too quiet. I guess I want not too loud at start up but with drama under acceleration.

So if anyone can say whether the resonated will give a roar under acceleration or even better have a link to a clip they would be a big help!

cheers
dave.

Hey Ben,

I got stage 1 done almost 2 months ago and i had originally planned to get the non-res Y-pipe..

Since i was in Dubai, communicating through email and few calls whilst my car sat at litchfields for almost 2 months, there was a small mix up and they fitted the resonated Y-pipe instead lol..

However i can assure you it ROARRS like a beast ! Even has that sexy rumble on idle :)
I remember calling Litchfields the first day i got back, saying that i wanna come back and get the non-res put on at my next service.. But now after having it for so long I have decided to just stick with the resonated version.. Its loud, but not too loud and I have been on some convoys with friends where everyone has told me the car sounds amazing :) In a tunnel it sounds nutss !

In all honesty videos on youtube really dont do any justice.. You can probably differenciate between different exhaust notes, but you will not really be able to tell a few db of difference on your PC lol

Excellent that sounds like just what I wanted to hear.
Thanks for the info it now feels less of a gamble & more an informed choice :)

I have resonated with Akrapovic back boxes. The grumble at idle is nice.... and it roars when you open it up!

OK stage 1 fitted at weekend with updated gearbox software. Performance is notably up couldn't overtake by just planting my usual heavy foot as as the car was squirming about in admittedly greasy conditions, I now have to be more involved in the drive and apply the power progressively.

Based on the replies here I opted for the resonated y-pipe - its plenty loud enough for me i'm also using manual shifts a hell of a lot more to hear the exhaust on the downshifts.

Thanks for all the replies.

Nice :) Good to hear you are satisfied with the stage 1 and the resonated y-pipe.. Told you it was nice and loud !

I also noticed the loss in grip after the remap, car is much more powerful and power delivery is much faster.. To counter that i went and got the MPSS tyres with the litchfield setup (285/305).. Much much more traction now and also the ride is 10x softer + more quiet.. However i do miss fighting the car for grip :/

Sounds similar to what I want to do, when you had the mpss fitted, did you have nitrogen put in, or just air filled? Do you have to get a specialist to fit? As I'm thinking of getting the tyres from camskill, but need to get them delivered/fitted

Thanks

Its a pretty good setup and the ride is better than the stock run flats.. I just had air filled in mine, apparently it makes no difference weather its nitrogen or air.. Air is 70% nitrogen and 17%oxygen... Oxygen and other gasses change density and can escape at diff temps, whereas nitrogen does not.. So in races like F1 it is effective and beneficial. On the road it makes no difference..

I would highly recommend you get it done from a GTR specialized garage nearest to you. They would do a much better job at balancing and wheel alignment..

Where abouts are you based in the UK..?

thanks , I'm in the North-west :D I was also thinking specialist, as I've heard the runflats can be tricky to remove

From what I have heard they pretty much cut the run flats off as its like trying to pull a chav from a tin of Stella :D
