Yeah, was thinking about my car there really! Did you notice any noise increase with the extra ducting right to the bumper vents?
No as the extra ducting only points cold air in the direction of the filters.
If you were to plumb a duct like this directly into a stock air box then there would be a slight difference in NVH, but I doubt you'd ever notice it.

(I do actually design air induction system for a living by the way) ;)

I apologies for hijacking the thread. :shy:

Bit wet but great fun.

I have similar arrangement on my car.

This is quite simple to achieve.

I've run a 3 inch duct from the two horizontal vent below the headlight up to the underside of the filters. The only thing is you'll need to cut a hole below the filters in the side apron.

Like you I value the 'stock' look of my 32, but with the filters in place you can not see the ducting coming in.

Problem is, the Nismo oil cooler and ducting seals those holes off from the air box area.
So it takes all the air right through the oil cooler from those vents.
(Which works very well to keep that down )

Ron is going to get the logs from the ECU of the three events and see if it's as bad as I think or if I'm worrying about nothing.

Judging by some of the ideas I had about moving the radiator he's hoping it's not an issue. :chuckle:

You've got an uprated IC too haven't you Richard?

Let us know what the logged intake temps look like. Its a link g4 right?

Sprints are a bit of a special case when it comes to heat soak due to the queue and standing start, but once you are moving a lot of air moves through the engine bay so you'd think there shouldn't be too much of an issue.

Now you bring it up my fastest laps in my logged data tend to be the first hot lap out. I know my gtst used to get mega heat soak on the track after 1 lap with the tiny wmic - not now since it has a bigger fmic than the gtr!

Yes, after the first Brands outing Ron found me an intercooler that was from a car running far more power.
Bit of an RK bargain. :)

Will wait and see if I'm getting paranoid... :nervous:

Got a few other jobs to do also.

1. Think I've already get a slightly warped disc as after 5 or 6 laps I get a vibration under braking. Bit surprised about that.

2. Tailpipe is too big, just doesn't suit the stock(ish) look of the car.

3. I want to run with a cat if I can, I find the non-cat a bit anti-social in traffic, especially if the fumes are blowing back past the car.
I had to queue in slowing moving traffic getting back over Dartford Crossing on Monday and the fumes gave me a sore throat.

Why don't you speak to Leo (Driftperformance Parts) about the Veilside exhaust he has on the car he is currently breaking in the trade section.

I have a Veilside exhaust, looks and sounds awesome.

Your car will probably be sucking in the region of 300 Litres of air a second, (full revs), so the 'cold air' pipe I fitted is a only really a vanity thing as its going to get air from where ever it can at that rate, hot or cold!!

Richard, sorry if you've already posted this but why are you thinking it's running too hot?

The gas smell I'm not sure could have anything to do with the cat being in or out. I think what you're smelling might be something different.. Does your oil catch tank vent to atmosphere under the bonnet? Mine used to and would be smelly but it's got a hose running to the back of the car now and I don't get the smell anymore. Certainly when I got my cat removed I didn't notice any difference in smell :)

If it helps mine will sometimes see increased water temp if I'm stuck in traffic and if it's really hot will run about 95 degrees. Always comes down once moving though and not a problem on track.

Maybe is something else that's causing the heat: a restricted boost pipe or something?

Agreed about the tail pipe on the hks exhaust - it's too big. Just for looks:( otherwise it's good, and quiet:)
What type of de-cat pipe do you have? I run a silenced one and it's really quiet. Still louder than with cat but not droney on motorway or a problem for neighbours.

Cheers Sam, will wait for the logs back and see what the verdict is. :)

Meanwhile, a photo from Monday...

I know I am biased, but it does look good. :)
Liking the reflection of the barrier in the front passenger side of the bumper too!

Update.

Intercooler and associated bits in.
Slightly bumper trim to get it all to fit.
Looks OK, but I prefer the stock look with the mesh screen in front.
So RK Tuning are going to fit that back on which will mean a bit more work due to the larger intercooler that's sitting further forwards.
Obviously trying to keep it as stock looking as possible, hence the cooler has not been left silver.

Rear subframe has also been dropped and uprated bushes fitted.
This is a fair amount of work, takes more time than you'd think!
HICAS removed too.

Engine is also about to get quite a bit of attention... :)

Have to say I'm very happy with the way this is going.

Hoping to have it back on the road before the track season kicks off next year, which RK are confident won't be a problem.
What is that between the roof and the bonnet?

I get very paranoid about any think on my roof, bonnet or front wings.. Over the years picked up few small dents which I need to get massaged out by a PDR specialist.
