Hi whats safe boost on standard pistons?
Looking at buying an engine with this spec but I think I have heard that you shouldnt run over 1 bar on standard pistons..
The spec is:
single turbo rb26, rebuilt gtr engine, t67 greddy turbo, 48mm greddy wastegate, hks 800cc injectors, spitfire coilpacks, power fc d-jettro mapped to 510bhp at 1.4bar, R32 block and R33 crank. Standard rods and pistons. ACL race bearings on crank.

As long as the map is good (and you don't over-rev) it 'should' (could?) be okay.

The question itself is just completely wrong!

Think about it from the technical side of things and you´ll see what I mean. ;)

As I understand it, the piston will take 500bhp +, IF the map is good. You will note that RIPS (a respected engine builder in NZ) will run 800bhp on stock pistons ensuring the map is good.

Forged pistons give an extra margin of safety, but will still be toast if you get detonation.

Do a search, as this question has been posed many times before.
