Hi All,

I have an issue with both of my seatbelts in the fact that they often don't retract so get left in the doorframe and unless you know, people shut the door and can make an indentation in the frame, most annoying!

One guy suggested cleaning the belts as general build up of dirt over the years causes them to stop running properly but I've done this to my drivers side one and it's made little or no difference! :(

Can anyone suggest any other fixes, or alternatively, possibly provide me with a part number for both replacements please?

Cheers

i've seen the cleaning suggestion before, the difficult bit is that the bit that needs cleaning is near the top. I saw a youtube video where he soaked the belts in a detergent mix for a good few hours to break down the skin oils that build up in them.

I put mine in a bucket placed on the seat then left to soak for around 45mins, also scrubbed them. Water at the end looked the same to be fair, not dirty at all? I would have thought the top part (which I didn't clean) would have been the cleanest as it doesn't come into contact with anyone??

best way to check is to put the belt on, put a peg or something about 6" from where it sits near your neck. don't forget that this is skin oils so it will move up and down the material through capillary action, and you will get pick up as it moves over the rollers and guides.

Happens all the time on older cars. Clean them up. Then spray with silicone furniture polish. Should work great.

Cheers mate. When you say silicone furniture polish do you mean something like Mr Sheen? Any suggested products would be appreciated....

Anything on the seatbelt is going to transfer to clothes and skin. Somthing to bear in mind. Common Pledge is ment to contain silicone oil. Beeswax works too. It is much harder to spread around so that it works though.

So are you suggesting some kind of Beeswax in polish form rather than a spray like Mr Sheen? I went on eBay and I noticed a lot of the Beeswax furniture polishes stated 'non silicone' so should I stay away from them?

Didn't meen to promote a favourite. Only not to grab the silicone spray lube. Whatever your comfortable with. Mr sheen should do as it has dimethicone listed on it.
