Does anyone know if the Skyline GTR was made first and then the lesser versions from that design or if the GTR was beefed up from an already existing saloon design (such as with an RS Turbo being made from a normal Escort road car)
Sorry if its a numb question guys

think the GTS/GTE/GTX versions of thr R32 appeared in may 89, while the GTR appeared in august. Should think they were designed together.

So does that mean that the GTR would have been better if it was built from the ground up to be just a GTR? As it will have restrictions to cope with if it was based on the normal road/family saloon? Just wanna know for sure so that i dont look like a [email protected] when i argue that it has no restrictions to compensate for with it being built up from a family saloon design (if it was)
Also im refering to all the R32 33 and 34 models

yes the GTR was the highest model and was always behind on its release. I'll give you a little time chart.

-In 1989 the first R32 was released as GTS,GTS-t etc
-In August of 1989 the GTR was released and the legacy begins.
-In 1993 all lower model skylines were changed to R33's. (R32 GTR continued)
-In 1995 R32's were out of production and R33 GTR's took over.
-In 1998 R34's were introduced to replace all non GTR R33's
-In 1999 R34 GTR's came out, ending the R33's completely.
-In 2002 R34's stopped production and the GTR went to sleep again
-2007/8 GTR reborn again.. we shall see if it can live up to its roots

So to answer your question, GTR's are 2.6 ltr, Twin Turbo, Wide bodied, 4wd, 4 Wheel Steer, Track monster editions of the skyline family car. :p ...

But all that really means is that your family car, grocery getter skyline is an awsome piece of machinery. :D

I dont think it's been built from the ground up so to speak, I think it's still based on the 350z chassis?

There won't be an R35 GTR. The way I understand it the next 'monster', the new GTR is nothing to do with the R35 Skyline :)

Yes you are right as far as I know, the latest skyline is the G35 (us) or V35 (jap) and infact the next GTR won't even be a skyline. Nissan has confirmed that they will be 2 different cars all together.

If they keep the R chassis code, it will likely be the R36, and from what nissan has released so far it seems to be a Twin Turbo 350Z with "new" body design :p

Time for a new Era... We had the Inline 6 N/A GTR's in the 70's with the Hako (kpgc10) and the KenMary (kpgc110).. Then we had the Inline 6 Twin Turbo 4WD GTR's in the 80/90's (R32,R33,R34) and next is the V6 Twin Turbo (4wd?) GTR.

Bye Bye good old I6
