As the new bulletin board is up and running now, I thought it prudent to post a copy of the details about our track day scheduled for September.....

Saturday September 1st is now reserved for us but as you will see below, full details won't be available until the end of July. The total cost for the day will be in the order of £3k, to be confirmed next week, which will include full marshalling, emergency services (God forbid we need these!), instructors to help us get it right and the use of the 1.5 mile straight for top speed, or nearly perhaps, runs. I will be taking deposits now of £100 each which will need to paid over to the organiser 6 weeks (mid July) prior to the event, the balance will need to be paid 3 weeks later. I will mail everybody who has already contacted me with payment details. My intention is for the cheques to be made out to the organiser and hold these until such time we have the full compliment of 20 participants. As I have had over 30 mails from interested Skyline owners, it will be on a 'first come, first served basis'. If we don't get 20, it will then opened up to other makes or models perhaps. Anybody who is interested but hasn't mailed me yet, please do so to: [email protected]

Anyway, these are the details:

*************************************************

Unlike airfield based venues, this venue has been set up for full time, permanent use for motoring i.e. clean, no cones, high quality surface and a track that not only has corners but goes up and down too! In common with the better airfield venues, it does have very healthy run-off areas and is more accessible and cheaper than circuits. It takes the best elements of both and combines into a very promising venue.

Primarily aimed at providing race-team, magazines, tv and film crews with a suitable and safe area for cars, trackday will also feature on the menu. Karting, Honda Pilots, loose surface driving and 4X4 areas will also eventually be available from resident specialist companies. We are working on deals so that our guests can "turn up and drive" on these activities while they are waiting for their trackday sessions.

The site is in a very picturesque area, but benefits from having absolutely no noise limit and full support from local authorities. For confidentiality we've been asked to refrain from giving out the exact location until end July. Its final name has also yet to be decided! However, we can tell you that it is within easy travelling distance of the M40 and M4 motorways, about 90 minutes by car from London.

The "full-time" circuit is 1.6miles long, though can be increased/decreased according to what is needed for particular groups of car, giving a maximum (and very twisty) circuit 2.1miles in length. There is also a separate 1.5 mile, 30 meter wide straight available for high-speed tests.

All in all it looks set to be the home of plenty of driving fun, and above all else - it's a very SAFE venue.

*************************************************

It's decision time...

For the benefit of anybody who has not mailed me but may be interested in attending, the location of the circuit is approximately 20 miles north west of Reading near a village called Aston Tirrold.

As I've mentioned before, it's first come, first served but the deadline for receipt of deposits is Friday 20th July 2001 at which point, if we haven't got 20 takers, we either open it to other makes/models or throw in the towel.

Spectators and passengers (not including those accompanying participants) will only be allowed onto the circuit by prior arrangement with a charge of £20 per person.

If you've got a GT-R, you've just got to be interested in driving it. Where better can you think of exploring it's potential than on a track along with 19 other GT-Rs in relative safety? :smokin:

Peter.

PS. Thanks to Dino for the picture.

Guy,

Great idea and I'm sure it could easily be arranged. Obviously the more attending, the cheaper it would be and instruction could be reduced or omitted altogether in time. Whilst a greater number of people attending will cut down track time, if it's a regular meet, not everybody, me included, wants to spend all day on track.

Geographically, this venue seems to be pretty good and there shouldn't be any problem getting a regular booking there.

My concern at the moment, which I know you share, is actually getting enough owners to commit themselves to it. As you know, I'd be up for any track opportunity but I wonder how many other members are? Let us see how many of us participate in the first day and also make sure that everybody is happy with the circuit.

Could anybody who has received a mail from me about the track day who has decided not to attend for whatever reason, please mail me back and let me know. :)

Regards.

I've had 3 mails from people today and yesterday saying that they didn't receive the promised mail from me with details about the track day. I sent them all out the Friday before last so if yours didn't arrive, please let me know....

Thanks to all of you who have already sent your deposits and I'm pleased to say that it's now almost certain that it will proceed. If any of you are hesitating, don't spend too long cos' you'll miss the boat! :)

Ta.

Peter.

BTW, the pic is totally unrelated to track days or Skylines!

Time is running out.....

Despite sufficient promises for deposit cheques, we are still woefully short of actual physical cheques we need to secure this event. :(

I know there's still a week to go but please can everybody who is coming along, send their cheques in as soon as possible now. I've mailed everybody (hopefully you've all got them) who expressed an interest with details and asked if people have changed their minds to let me know so we know where we're going with this. Nobody has responded negatively so I'm still hoping that you are all committed to it. If you've changed your mind since, at least have the courtesy let me know ASAP.

If you are still undecided, it's decision time now....

Sorry to get on my high horse but I really don't want to be wasting any more of my time if it ain't going to happen.

Thanks. :)

Come on you Skyliners

A track day is great fun and very safe .... it teaches you how to handle your car in err more extreme situations and Peter's even got an instructor laid on.

It really does not get much better than this.

I remember my first track day (in a new Ferrari 328 GTS). I was terrified of spinning or crashing it ... nothing like that happened and after 15mins, I couldn't get enough of it...:D :D :D

Actually, there are two instructors included within the cost so that everybody will be able to take advantage of some professional instruction. With this and the 1.5 mile runway for top'ish speed runs, it's an absolute steal of a day.

As an added incentive, Easytrack have offered a few places for this Saturday for their track day at Rockingham for a £40 discount to anybody who is signed up (and has paid the deposit) for the Skyline track day. This reduces the cost to £129 which has also got to be a bargain. www.easytrack.co.uk

Small print: This only applies to people who are not already booked in, sorry Richard!

Thanks to all of you who have now sent your deposits in, 3 more today.

On a separate issue, I wonder if anybody has access to any timing equipment? I'm not sure how much time we'll get on the runway but a 'drag queen' (sorry Tim :D ) asked the question this morning and it would be good to get some times if possible.

I haven't posed the question to Easytrack yet as there would be a cost to it with them.

Not wishing to start a 'name 'em and shame 'em' campaign but there are a few guys who I had down a definites who seem to have gone awol. Rupert is away I think at the mo, Henry no idea, Michael (777) no idea, Dave C no idea....??

Speed equipment.

Thanks Guy and Joss. The GPS gizmo should be useful.

I wondered if anybody has access to a Race Technology AC or AP22? I'll mail them and see if they want to loan us one for the day for evaluation purposes....

Silverstone GP.

Richard,

Did you watch the GP. Bet you smiled when Trulli went off at Copse! Were you wearing the tee shirt? :)

Glad you had a good day at Rockingham; it's always good when it rains. Even more an advantage over most of the rest of the field.

See you at Bedford. Is Ian Flux likely to be there?

Bedford, IF and Rockingham

Hi Peter

Ian would come if I phoned him and we shared the cost. Not cheap though. He normally only does RMA days.

Didn't see the GP, too busy recovering from my own antics on the Saturday.

Rockingham Rocked, not too bad weather but slippy at times anyhow.

I should get a t-shirt:confused:

See you at Bedford

Right, we're on! :D

Pleased to let all of you who have parted with your 'hard earned' for the deposit for our track day on Saturday 1st September that it's now confirmed. Circuit details, layouts, directions, etc. will be forthcoming very shortly. I will mail everybody with these.

We have now got 16 actual deposits with 1 more definite and a couple more likely's. With only 3 spaces left to fill, if you own a Skyline and are hesitating, you've only got 2 more days left to make your minds up or it'll be too late.

I have had several requests from people owning other makes for them to join us so regardless of whether the last few places are Skylines (which would be  ) or not, it's going to happen.

I have been asked about bringing second drivers along and assuming nobody has any objections, this will be OK, no charge, but they will have to stick with the session order, i.e no double sessions. The circuit, I am told, would be best suited to a max of 10 cars out in each session so there'll be oodles of time for everyone.

On the runway side of things, it's best to point out that timing drags, etc. may be construed by your insurers as competition which you'll find I think, is specifically excluded from your cover so whilst Easytrack have no objections, this needs to pointed out, plus we haven't got any timing equipment yet anyway.... :(

See you all on the 1st. :D

Track day spectators.

For any of you who would like to come along individually to have a look at Glen in his Bayside Blue posing pouch  , there's a £20 charge. Oh, and there'll be a few Skylines there as well. :)

This charge will help the participants offset some of their costs of the day. This needs to be paid for in advance as you will need a pass and directions as you'll never find the circuit or be able to get in without them. Mail me if you're interested at: [email protected]
