Can anyone tell me roughly where the starter motor on my GTR is (R33).. is there anything special required to remove it??

Thank you

Its located rhs (oil filter side) low at the rear. Bitch of a job to remove as I found when removing mine as it was sticking. Remember to disconnect battery whilst the wheels are in the straight ahead position, if you intend removing it... good luck

Sorry... forgot to say, no special tools needed just a good socket set with a uj and small hands for the top bolt.

Why does the battery need removing in wheels straight ahead position??

Mine is out and I know for a fact there is a slight amount of lock on?

I've not heard that the wheels need to point straight. I never bothered with my GTS.

No worries....This is only for GTR's I believe with the HICAS System Disconnect the battery for 10 minutes, whilst disconnected straighten the wheels then reconnect the battery. I had to do it on mine. There are quit a few threads covering this.

Thank you for that my man!!

I was pooping it thinking it would need to go to a specialist for some expensive reset!!

Now could you possibly tell me what is with the starter removal.. where are the bolts.. how many and wich way do they come in from?? I assume you removed it from below?? Please don't tell me you stripped off all the inlet manifold!!

I found a bolt at the bottom.. that goes through the started into the bell housing.. removed this and it didn't seem keen on going anywhere so I assume there is another one I can't see? I found what feels like a thread sticking out at the top (thread is on the starter moter side) but I can't feel any nut head and even if I could I have no idea how I would get a spanner on it?

Is this a cap head or something that comes in from through the bell housing??

Please help spoons!

Cheers

They 'should' both be bolts with 14mm A/F heads. It's sometimes easier to access it from the top.

As R32 said there are two 14mm AF bolts holding the starter to the bell housing these both come in from the front if I remember. Sounds like you have found the lower one, the other is 180 degrees opposite at the top of the starter near the block vertical face. This is the harder one to reach I did mine from underneath, after loosening it undid it 1/4 turns at a time with fingers.
My starter was making a whinning sound for a second or two after engaging the ring gear so I disconnected the battery, left all the wiring to the starter connected, removed the two bolts, covered the bellhousing hole with a rag and cleaned away the clutch dust from the bendix with wd40 whilst starter was pulled forward out of the bell housing. Then refitted... solved the problem. Hope yours is just a cleaning job. Enjoy.....

Thank you spoons..

I will have great fun!! especially with the rain!! I can't get it in the garage now! So the second bolt on the top you did blind by putting a spanner over the top of the starter?? Oh what fun!
