So I***8217;ve had the dsc on the car for a couple of weeks and feel like I can give some feedback on the system.

Unfortunately I can***8217;t add much to what***8217;s already been said!......
A much improved supple ride when cruising, less dive when braking, flat in the corners.

I***8217;ve only ever driven a cba gtr and I would say the dsc is worth upgrading to for the improved suppleness alone. I know some have questioned whether track times are improved as a result of the system. I don***8217;t track my car so can only offer subjective findings.

For normal driving I find I can drive the car faster on my local crap roads without having to wince. The car certainly doesn***8217;t crash over smaller road imperfections any more.

I have also found a nice benefit when pushing on....the tyres don***8217;t seem to skip and scramble for grip in the corners anymore. The increased contact time gives me more confidence in the corners and you can really feel what the tyres are doing. The adaptive nature of the system is easy to get used to. Initially I thought that constantly changing suspension parameters would make the car unpredictable but instead it***8217;s intuitive and works with you. The under/over steer bias of the car can be tailored to your preference.

It***8217;s also possible to adjust the settings yourself via a laptop. I actually had a go at a map myself. It was horrible! And that made me realise that the system is very reliant on the quality of the mapping. That***8217;s where Hugh comes in. He supplied me with 3 maps and his communication and support has been excellent throughout.

So in a nutshell I would say that on a cba gtr, a stage 1 remap and the dsc controller are no brainers due to their cost-benefit ratio

Just got around to fit the DSC Sport controller today, I have been looking forward to installing it so I could test it before storing the car for the winter.

And I just got home after testing the various suspension settings, and I was really impressed. A much more refined feeling and much better rebound in each setting and the reduced body roll in Race is just perfect. Makes me wonder if I really should be eyeing new uprated ARBs at the moment.

Really looking forward to taking it to the track again in the Spring, this time with the DSC controller installed!

Fitting went OK, my big hands had some problems getting a good grip of the OEM controller, but overall really simple and easy to do.

For reference, I am running a CBA stock suspension on Toyo R888R tires.

Thanks Hugh, really great communication and quick responses, appreciate it!
Thanks mcz,

CBA suspension has much firmer spring rates than the later year GTR's and only slightly less than the Nismo GT3.

If you ever plan on tracking your car, ARB's will provide less roll than the DSC Sport with standard maps.

The stiffening response from the standard suspension maps on CBA cars is generally sufficient for road use, however many who track their cars feel the benefit of aftermarket Anti-Roll Bars.

Using the Tractive suspension, that also works with the DSC Sport system, there would be a reduced requirement for aftermarket anti-roll bars since Tractive can provide up to 40% more damping resistance than the standard Damptronic shockabsorbers.

Thanks

Hugh

Hugh,

My car should arrive early Jan 2019. I guess other than softer springs and maybe geometry changes my car will have the same suspension as previous years?

Will fitting your module allow for even softer ride when cruising but stiffer when required?? I am getting old, need comfort most of the time lol

Paul,

Congratulations on your new car.

I am not aware of any changes to the spring rates for the latest GTR's.

The suspension can be made softer than standard on all year GTR's.

The Comfort, Sport and Race maps are all programmed to suit your requirements, most users ask for the suspension to be programmed softer than standard in Comfort.

The Sport and Race maps are also generally left softer while driving straight ahead to improve traction going into and out of corners. The suspension then stiffens up to familiar levels as the cornering G-Forces increase.

Adjustments to anti-dive when braking and anti-squat on acceleration also help build confidence.

There are users who prefer the suspension to be stiffer at all times, this is also possible, it's up to you to let me know what suits you best.

The hardest job on the latest model year cars is firming the suspension up sufficiently for track days, it is doable, these cars would benefit from anti-roll bars and springs if planning regular track excursions.

Increasing the castor is also beneficial for track day handling.

In my own GTR, I enjoy the comfort settings 99% of the time, so we are on the same wavelength there.

Thanks

Hugh

Thanks Hugh,

Yeah the new one looks a bit lively. I prob won’t do springs but may well do antiroll bars, and if your module reduced braking dive that can only be a good thing.

have a look at the video from 10.45 mins in. Seems like under braking the rear is unloaded to the point where it makes the car unstable. Watching the rest of the video the 17 car looks a bit of a handful.

I interpreted that squirm as a bit of driver error. He'd taken a line towards the outside of the turning point to try and get onto the racing line from an inside starting position, but then turned in under braking, unsettling teh car.

What is most apparent is how stable under cornering the Nismo is in comparison. Little body roll, no drama at all. I'd love one of those!

The subject of spring rates is one that routinely comes up when discussing how to set up the DSC Sport suspension maps.

The shocks on all year GTR's are the same except possibly the Litchfield offering.

I have collected pictures of the various year suspension over a period of time and wanted to share some details of the springs that Nissan have fitted over the years to assist with those discussions.

For those that track their cars, you will no doubt, be interested to see the Nismo 2015 suspension.

I am not aware of Nissan having disclosed the spring rates, however, I have it on good authority that they are 1120lb/in front / 600 lb/in rear.

Next we have the Spec R from Swift springs which I believe to be 1117 lb/in front / 615 lb/in rear, so are effectively the same rate as the Nismo, however, they have softer helper springs that will reduce the effect.

Next we have Litchfield that appear to me to be similar to the Nismo springs on the front and possibly the Spec R on the rear.

Next we have the 2009/2010 GTR that I have seen reported as

Front Spring Rate:

15.40 kg/mm (860 lb/in) max rate
14.28 kg/mm (800 lb/in) static
12.13 kg/mm (680 lb/in) average

Rear Spring Rate:

7.95 kg/mm (445 lb/in) max rate
6.93 kg/mm (390 lb/in) static
6.83 kg/mm (382 lb/in) average

Next we have the 2011 suspension

Now the 2014 suspension

Next 2015 suspension

Finally the 2017 suspension.

The moral of the above is that when you are planning lots of track work, you will be faster with the Nismo / Spec R /Litchfield or MY 2009 / 2010 suspension.

If you are planning a drag only car then something around the MY 2015 / MY 2017 may offer a good solution.

For comfort, there is no doubt that the later years suspension is much softer.

For any of you planning a DSC Sport suspension controller upgrade, I keep them in stock ready for your 2019 campaign.

Thanks

Hugh

Thanks Dave,

Great to hear you are enjoying the benefits of the DSC Sport controller.

DSC have just brought out a help video on the launch control settings that I wanted to share, to show how everything is set-up.

Note:- The simplest way to enable the GTR's launch control, is with the brake pedal pressed hard and the throttle pedal flat to the floor, the red LED on the suspension control button flashes to let you know your suspension is ready to launch.

Lift your foot off the brake pedal and let the magic happen.
