I'm thinking about buying a R33 GTR vspec, but want to find out what to look for before taking the plunge. Probably going to spend somewhere in the region of 20k (+/- 3k), and would like 450bhp+ available (not all the time, just for a blast from time to time).
Any pitfalls to look out for ? I've already had a spin in one, and was impressed (albeit slightly deafened ;) ), but am nervous parting with this kinda cash without finding out a bit more about them first.

The one I had a spin in was circa 500bhp, engine work by Abbey, and was tidy, but there did seem to be quite a whine from the back end - are the diffs normally noisy in these, or are they a common problem area ? Almost sounded like a straight cut kind of whine, but maybe it's something completely different ! The car was running std intercooler and radiator too - is this likely to cause problems ?

Any other advice would be great, however small !!

Thanks

Dave

hi, i know what you mean about parting with the cash but you won't regret it not if your like me anyway!are you going to buy an import or a uk car i bought an import in the end and have had no trouble but do your homework get a bimta certificate make sure the service history comes with the car an inspection would be a great idea too and the only comment i can make on the whining noise is that my car does'nt do it but it has only a few mods.good luck.

R32 as an alternative..

Sorry Jason, but I prefer the look of the R33.

I'd have a R34 if I could afford it, but I've already got a second mortgage !!! ;)

Thanks anyway,

Dave

Dark red
1996 (P) R33 GTR which is Abbey stage 1 tuned, dyno'd the other month at 415 BHP as feature in Japanese Performance under SteveC..
T imed by banzai mag (on an uphill run) at 0- 60 in 4.2 seconds 0-100 in 9.7 and a standing 1/4 in 12.7.
The usual power figures for a car in this state of tune is about 360-380 bhp this car made 415 and I wouldn't let the guy take it to max RPM, I made him stop at 8K rather than the limiter of 8250.
Features include :-
Nismo Clutch,
Abbey stage 1 ECU
Oil cooler with remote filter.
HKS induction kit
HKS rear pipe,
Trust front pipe,
De-Cat
Apexi AVC-R boost controller (fitted after dyno day)
HKS lowering springs (std V-spec ones available with car)
nismo spoiler trims,
Nismo B-post trims
Lumi brite dials (7 shades of green through blue)
safety harness as well as std seat belts.
rear skyline lettering lights up at night.
carbon gear knob etc
GTR mats
Sony Cd player and upgraded speakers.
All original parts that have been swapped are still in my shed so it could be easily returned to STD spec.
The car has only 20k miles Meter reads 29K but the speed jumper convertor was only added a short while ago.
Cat 1 alarm, Tracker.
Lots and lots of TLC, serviced religiously every 3k miles.
I am the second UK owner, the first being the chap who imported her, when I bought the car there were 9000 miles (converted from KM ) on the clock and it was still restricted to 112 mph. better still the chap didn't know it was still restricted..
Looking for about 22k
Picture available via email, or request. Or check out Japanes performance mag and the banzai 0-60 feature.
Give him a call on 07766 574139
or 01444 231781 (day)

Hope this helps

Best regards Alan

R34...

Beautiful car bayside, but just a bit too expensive for me I'm afraid (unless dealer prices are under 30k ;) ).

I've seen the ad for the red one too, but am a bit fussy about my colours - purple or blue have the vote at the moment unless a stunning deal comes along.

Any advice about things to look out for ??
