Swear filter etc

At the risk of getting another infraction for circumventing the swear filter, if I type something like "[email protected]$k" or just type the word **** when explaining something, in the context it was written, most people will, in their own minds see the word ****. Even if they find that word offensive, they still know what it is. With regards to text speak (that the forum rules prefer you not to use), PMSL, FPMSL, LMAO, LMFAO, FFS, WTF etc everyone knows what they mean. Better still, this text speak was invented by kids, not adults, so who are we protecting? This kind of language has been around for a long time and used to be censored heavily by television and the newspapers but is now frequently used by both, the F word being printed with the use of well placed stars. Is it accepatble though? I don't find it offensive on TV as it's what I choose to watch. As for the papers (tabloid rags obviously, but local papers just as guilty), I don't find printed swear words offensive, just unnecessary.

I agree with Gavman that the use of swearing is typical of the average working man (and many women for that matter). I am reasonably intelligent and can hold conversations on a wide range of subjects but I am prone though, to excessive use of unnecessary amounts of swear words. They do have the ability to convey depth of feeling and that is probably why some people resent their censorship.

For the record I have only been drinking moderately tonight!

Lastly I'm an R35 owner so maybe I ought to get back to my specific forum and join in with the Y pipe, AccessPort and broken bits chat? Bye for now.

TBH I don't think I've even moderated any swearing on here since I started in January. It's odd it's perceived as heavily moderated.
I got nailed for it within about a fortnight of being on here. I'm not bitter though :D

It was a fair cop, I just didn't read the rules. There you go, someone who accepts blame.

I may not have read a rule or two, but I've certainly had the no swearing rules thrust upon me :D

However I'm quite proud of my two 'infractions', bit like having an Asbo on my estate ! :chuckle:

And as for finding most of the current portfolio of threads dull and too sensible, that's never stopped me from inserting my own particular brand of Mulliganese into them at every available opportunity ......... Forum life is what you make of it.

Older then me... so YES! :p
Cheeky ;)

i did join here when i was 25 though, so I've been here long enough to have seen most of the changes over the years.

I've witnessed inter forum disputes, garage wars, personal fights, the UK scene being dominated by Rocket Ron to Ron Kiddel and Tweenie beyond. I've seen cars get into the 9's, the 8's and the 7's over the years, and recently the forays of the Skyline scene onto the track instead of the strip. Ive seen the New GT-R prototypes come and go, the rumours awash and the final product launch. I've witnessed prospective owners panic at Nissans warranty rules, sweat in anticipation of delivery, then wax lyrical when that day arrives...

...and i'm now genuinly thrilled to watch that same set of owners tweak, modify, improve and push the boundaries on thier cars, in the true spirit of GTR ownership.

and not once have I felt the forum was "dying" and i'm not sure one single thread over the last year or two should change that

the forum is better than ever.. its just a "different" forum to the one some people expect

I think it all went wrong when the moderators refused to ban the walter mitty type characters .
I mean who hasn`t watched that idiot with the lancer ruin a good thread? Mincing about the place, `decorating` a thread with some meaningless post like one half of Justin and Colin....just to get his moment of fame on the internet.
I thought it would stop when mummy kicked him off the tit and out the spare room but it hasn`t!!:popcorn::popcorn:

I may only have joined as a member quite recently compared to some but I have been visiting for years as a "lurker" and I must say, in my opinion anyway, that this place for me is as active as ever, indeed in some ways more so than ever.

I would also like to thank the owner/staff for all the time and effort that goes into this community which gives me such a great place to escape for a while and top up my knowledge! Thank you.

I think that there are a few problems with JDM car forums in general . .now in 2010.!!!! . . . one being the constant content deviation from threads and re-usage of that content on other blogs, online mags, feeds, photo and video sharing sites and other similar forums in general.

At the very begining of this forum until about 2005, digital cams were of bad quality, so that most posed pics were . .euhh . . of crap quality. . . and professional car magazines (papers and web) didn't feature GTRs either in a broad manner (just the british japanese performance mag.)
Then all of a sudden everyone got a 5million pixel digicam from 2005 onwards and this site, as well as all other online car forums, literaly exploded with photographic content. This was a very important evolution for car forums as the endless discussions got a real face now and the content (pics and discussion) had more to offer then professional press itself.

Problem now is that we have seen it all and discussed it all. All great pics from this forum can be found on google or flickr in two seconds. The cars, the parts, the events discussed are also featured else where, which drasticaly removes the uniqueness of each car forum. I mean in 2004, Mines was some mysthic name, now the net is full of their stuff or just go to their website to see what it is all about.

At the end there is allways a bunch of core members who run the forum, but when the forum grows in to a hundred of thausend visitor site, the content gets to large and divers ,as well as changing to quick, to be able to feel, lets say, cosy when you visit here.

Neverless this place offers one thing most car site don't have: and this is geniun hardcore enthusiasts from around the world, willing to share knowledge, help and friendship, . . . . . you just need to make some steps and get out from your lazy perception that the forum is an utility with no required input from yourself.

Couldn't agree more. I was reading that and it reminded me of a 'conversation' on this forum I had some time ago about something similar. Smashing weather today i thought. Great day to be out driving in my Chevy. :D

Interesting that on page 1 Fuggles was talking about a charity event in August (which I am assuming was the ASDA Day)...... and just thinking about how successful the last one was (Saturday just past) :)
