Dear All

What a great time. Didn't get to do all I wanted to.

Anyway, a run down on some interesting points which we already know but I may be able to fit in some more info:

Some parts are cheaper than UK dealer/tuner prices depending on what you want. Some are dearer.

Right, to purchase as an individual a handful of the normal items i.e. filters,I/C,exhaust,ecu will work out cheaper if you ordered them from say Takakaira. But your freight charges then tax(if you get caught and may well do with large items) will slaughter you. Mated to that you have to fit 'em yourself, have no come-back and would get screwed with the ecu as it would have to be mapped here and whoever done it would charge you up as you didn't buy the gear from them.

To order stuff from other tuning companies, over the net, may turn out to not be possible as 'introductions' are an important part of their business and they ain't gonna bother for 1 I/C so back to Takakaira. Or their is a place I visited called 'SuperAutobacs'. It is like a Halfords but with lots of odd stuff for GTR's, Silvia's, Evo's, Scoobys etc., Don't get me wrong this isn't a comprehensive shop by any means but does have quite a few parts at reasonable prices. They even sell Mines ECU's and Apexi Power FC's. Again though the prices are relevant to Takakaira and whether or not they would ship is questionable.

I believe the only way to do it is to go their on holiday, buy a spare suitcase and go shopping. Oh and by the way not everything is available off the shelves and can take a few days to order. Unless you go to the tuning houses direct and buy their products and bring em home. We can see these prices on the net anyway.

Also don't forget that you WOULD have to want to go to Japan on a holiday anyway otherwise you would have to buy shed loads of expensive gear to make it viable. And then again warranties would be impossible to get.

I personally have ordered a few small bits from Takakaira in the past and have found them to be OK.

Their are many other tuners/specialists out their who we don't really know about who also make parts for the GTR's. One such company called Autoselect is where I purchased my guard from. It is cheaper than say Mines/Arc but they aren't geared up to send over the odd smallish item. And the prices you see for Nismo, Mines etc., are the same in apan and NO discount. therefore what we pay over here is the same as in Japan. Expensive.

The GTR scene in Japan is HUGE as Dino tells us and I only just scrathed the surface on my trip. Being such a huge GTR scene allows the market place more freedom in Japan than it does over here.

Therefore I believe that we aren't getting overcharged here in the UK but are paying basically the going rate. Yeah I agree their may be a difference of perhaps £75 on a pair of filters but bear in mind the tuners over here don't get huge discounts and respectively the market place is SO small that they ain't really interested in getting over involved here. I do think we kid ourselves sometimes that we can get stuff a lot of stuff a lot cheaper.

it was brilliant to meet DCD/Dino and his dad at Fuji. The day was absolutely brilliant as was the drive down their (hired a car  ). To see/hear all the old/new Skylines in all their glory was superb. I thoroughly recomend the day. never got to go to Yokohama Bridge as was totally knackered Saturday night (had to get up 5am Sunday) and as we didn't have the hire car delivered until Saturday night, Friday night meant we would have had to have caught a train to Yokohama which stop running around midnight. As the racers don't get their until 1-2am seemed pointless.

I do have pics but have to get them off the camera. Mind you DCD has done a blinding job as usual. Sorry if this comes out a bit drivel but I am bleedin knackered and am going to bed.

Catch up with you all soon.

See Ya.

Dear All.

Don't know if anyone else has seen Dino but here's a pic of him whilst we were having lunch in Akhibara, Tokyo.

Not the most flattering I know Dino and yes I probably got your worst side but hey :D ;) :D .
