Skyline launch!

I said Skyline launch and you were a Pulsar launch. That said, I was very impressed with you're performance. Bigger balls than me!

Big balls...

In fact, thinking about it, either way my previous statement is horrible as it infers that either I have no balls at all, which is not true, or that you have a massive set of bollocks, which is anatomically incorrect.

I withdraw my ‘bigger balls’ comment.

Sorry.

But you did launch your car well…

Mechanical sympathy.
Yes I am guilty big time of this.
I think I have got to get my head around the problem.
Either have a go and bollox to the mechanical risks or do not have a go at all.
The first one was ok.
I should have practised further to become "comfortable with the knowledge that the car would not break".

I second everything you say about the two Gladiators Glen and Ronnie both did an excellent run.

I must also give credit to Dirk though he did launch very very well against Ronnie.

It is also strange that the 1st car and the 2nd car were in a play off against each other for a place in the final.

No matter how much I think about this there is no justification for it. It should be pointed out to the organisers to handle this better next year.

Dirk you were robbed by the organisers as well as second gear.

Ah

Thanks Ged.

You know, I was thinking that before and after the runs and although my gearbox broke and I ran Ronnie instead of you or Glen which is how it should have been I felt robbed to be honest but, as I have said before, I am all talk before these meets cos I dont care too much about breaking the car and I love the build up, I always try my very best and take my car to the absolute limits, I am gracious in defeat, I am gutted for the last run **** up and let down but I have no excuses, I didnt win and Ronnie did. There can only be 1 winner and he won because his car is more powerful but more importantly his bollox are just as big as mine at thrashing so he could use the car properly and get the best from it ( no diss to anyone else ) as i did.

I am not gonna make excuses for not winning, after all, I beat 9 other skylines whom were there in qualifying and lets face it, these cars are the most powerful in the country all bar Gary's non entry which was a shame and there I was with my 550+hp car, beating most that tried, despite pre-event rumours and banter, I didnt have Gary's engine in my car, I had mine and it whiped the floor due to the hard work from Gary @ GT Art ( IN THE MAIN ) for the engine - thanks Gary, Shin from Mines for some of the engine bits, HKS for engine parts and last thanks to me for being such a superstar class A driver. All of this was done using a standard bottom end and box, no billets or forges!

After all the banter before, during and after, and the success of the other cars, I have to mention and pat the back of Gary whom hasnt been mentioned in this thread, He was there with me and Talat and Henry, up against 8 other and 7 much more powerful cars and we came away beaming that he had built a quicker car using less horsepower than that of the competition skylines or otherwise, 1st would have been nice, still, thats racing.

Cheers Gary.

Ps.
All the shite about trailers and not driving em there or racing fuels etc etc, its not for us to argue about, the organisers should have be vigilant of this, no one can use the excuse of someone else using things that they shouldnt, if they did, well they have to live with that as it was cheating, otherwise, who cares, the organisers should have spotted it and enforced the rules as everyone knew them before they went. Not even worth talking about, Skylines reigned supreme, everyone else lost.

would just like to point a few facts out to people:
the top 4 cars in class C were not all skylines. the reason we ran off the top 1 vs 2 skylines was very simple, the Norris evo and the Escort cos of gareth lloyd were 2nd and 3rd respectively. it should have been them in the semis against ronnie and dirk.
therefore please do not make claims when you dont understand or have access to the actual results. the top 4 cars left were skylines as the remaining cars mentioned had suffered mechanical failure, or dropped out due to concerns.
when i post up the entire set of results you will appreciate this fact. Guy was good enough to organise some reserves from the rest of the 4wd class ranks, as otherwise there would have been a straight Bye to the final for ronnie and dirk.

in addition, reference other comments regarding road legal cars:
we do not need to look carefully at the legality of certain cars, ie the escort cos and others, which did come on trailers. all cars were road legal, taxed, tested and on road legal tyres. we didnt manage to fit in all the cars to be scrutineered, but the handling cct guys were checking the tyres as and when appropriate. i appreciate we need more bods for this task next year. i did ask for road legal cars, which is what we got. i cannot check if people come within 5 miles and offload a car from a trailer, so its pointless stopping people taking part who come on one.
i am more than happy that all clubs and drivers respected the underlying road legal and driveable basis to the event.

I hope this clears up facts for a couple of you

Trailers etc

Chris,

Just for the record, I hadn't claimed that any cars that were trailered, or ran special fuel were not fully road-legal, I thought they all were.

The point, which may have been mis-interpreted, was that it was an added bonus for the image of the GTRs that they all drove there and drove back, which proved the spririt of the competition.

There were good reasons why some cars arrived on trailers and even sadder reasons why several left on trailers. It just made us all a little prouder after the pre-event abuse about GTR power and reliability, we proved both.

Thanks again for a great day.

Sounds

fine to me, as I said, I had 2nd and had to settle for 3rd. What should have happened I feel, Me and Ronnie head to head, as it turned out, Ronnie 1st, Me 2nd, no problem with that its just that having me and Ronnie together meant that I could be pushed out of 2nd when I had proven it all day long, especially how the last runs were off the lights and reds mattered, not like the rest of the day where they didnt. Leon's Supra race shows that, beaten by the chap in the Maestro cos of a red light when we all know who the 10 of the best really was.

No critisism of the day at all, had a fantastic time, thanks for laying it on, everyone will be wiser for next year, you's included Chris. Well done for sorting it out, roll on next year.

Ouch Chris! Touchy Touchy. I was only mentioning what seems fairly obvious to most people.

I hear your explanation but it still makes no sense and you should still sort this out for next year to avoid any confusion.

"the Norris evo and the Escort cos of gareth lloyd were 2nd and 3rd respectively. it should have been them in the semis against ronnie and dirk. "

Since these were not available that made Dirk second and the case still stands.

In any elimnator in any sport if someone drops out everyone else moves up. You do not make the person who was fifth overall second and the one who was fourth third. That is absurd.

Well done for an excellent event it will no doubt be bigger and better next year, and will probably have our full support again.

not at all touchy, let me clear it up for you:

final 4wd class top ten on times at 3.30pm:
1 ronnie 11.97s
2. gareth lloyd esc cos 12.4s
3. norris evo 12.43s
4. andy barnes 13.10s
5.glen horncastle 13.13s
6 mike smith 13.22s
7. henry 13.27s
8. rupert 13.32s
9. Ged mc daid 13.33s
10 mark aigin subaru 13.45s

we were supposed to run ronnie vs andy (1vs 4)
which is happened. (2vs 3) couldnt as they both had withdrawn at that stage. Guy and myself decided to sort out some further runners to make up another semi, to continue the spectacle, from the remaining cars. mike smith withdrew as his clutch was shot. guy advised that only 2 left to run from the above were Glen and Ged. that was only done to make a semi final, technically what should have happened , as does happen at similar is that you go straight to a final. (when cars drop out byes are given etc.)

we went with Guys suggestion to use the only 2 cars left willing to run in the top ten to make up a 2nd semi.

hope that explains.

Guy- i didnt mean you there mate, i fully understand where you are coming from, the sight of the skylines driving to and from the event after such a good show is fantastic.

also of interest, we never had any question of fuel ratings or checking of them, its simply not possible, and we made it clear, any mods, any fuel, nitrous allowed etc.

full results will be made available by end of week to download.
rgds and see you all next year!

video footage - the entire day was filmed , with in-car etc, and external, there were 6 camera crews in action. certainly all the top cars had cameras in at some stage, on the drag, circuit and top speed runs. all the footage is being complied over the next few weeks and will be avilable in what should be a top video and dvd, for sale via our website, and at events such as trax etc.

all the big power cars were filmed, interviews taken with owners etc etc. personally i cant wait myself, as i saw very little of the event through being busy all day!
i did manage to stand behind Ronnies car as it launched in the final, jese what a sight!
the run off with ronnie and glen was superb with both cars going hard at it!

as a final parting shot, we did the supra vs Skyline , seeing as the supra had been eliminated in the 2wd final.
everyone wanted to see the 2 cars run, including me. (AND I HELP BUILD THE MAESTRO btw!)
the supra was never going to match ronnies launch, being rwd and Auto, but did put up a good run in the end.
Ronnie hit 12.38s 139mph to the supras 14.0 135mph.
(just for interest, the Supras best was 12.96 138mph!)

The website www.trackdayplus.com will be updated shortly, with results, then pics, plus you can register for a copy of the dvd/vid.

All competitors will receive a copy f.o.c when its ready.
