So I was picking up my xtrail today after first years service at my local Nissan dealership who also sales gtrs. We got to chat about gtrs and how I regret to sell my 33 gtr and currently saving up to get a my 12 or 13 from Germany. He told me to be very careful or it's gonna be a 20k bill afterward. When I ask if he means the gearbox he told me a crazy story. Gtrs can do only 10 launch's and after that you need to visit a dealership to change the oil and reset the gearbox. Many people just reset the gearbox without changing the oil. This will cause malfunction. Chek the maintenance book and look if it's done by a dealership. If not walk away. Is this true? I'm glad I talked to the lad

Load of rubbish. If the trans temp goes above 120 deg c then you should change the oil within 3k miles. Above 140 deg c change immediately.

There is a launch counter so with the right software you can see how many have been done. You can also see what temp range the gearbox has been too aswell.

No one sits and counts the number of launches and then changes the oil based on that.

I think that's what he tried to tell me. So what happens if the previous owner refused to change the oil? I'm screwed? Is there a way to see if the oil has been changed before purchasing it? I can take a mechanic from a gtr tuning shop with me to check the car. Thanks for the help.

I doubt you will see many GTR's that have even hit 120, 140 would be like hens teeth, bonus is that if its older its likely that someone has put decent oil in it like Pentosin that puts up with heat, Nissan oil is dark green most others are a very light honey colour.

Where in Germany are you looking to buy the car? If near me I could possibly pop over and take a look for you and run the EcuTek software to see if there are any error codes showing and how many launches it has done / tranny temps etc. If up near you it will be a little too far away though ...

If buying from Germany, I suggest talking to Markus Broemmler (Brömmler Motorsport - Brömmler-Motorsport). Markus 's the big GT-R dealer in Germany and does lots of motorsport stuff & modifications. He'll be able to tell you what's what and will be able to source you a good car too (y)

Thanks for the tip buddy. I am definitely looking to buy in Germany. Price difference to Holland is on a average of 20k. It's nuts. I let you know when i pull the trigger to get one.

Total crap, stock cars can only do i believe its 4 launches one after another and then the car will go into limp mode and the 4 wheel drive light will come on, you just need to drive it a mile and it'll go off then full power again and ready for launching again.

Sounds like the person at the Nissan dealership doesn't know, has never owned or driven a GT-R, because they clearly aren't clued up about the launch/gearbox/oil change facts. Still, each to their own opinion.....

I've imported the car from a Dutch gtr specialist no issues at all. Indeed the best GTR specialist is Broemmler in Germany.
