Some of you may have met Josh Young, who took 1st place in Australia's drift series last year and has been here in Japan the last 6 months. Really interesting guy - totally into drifting and the Japanese car culture.

31st August he returns down under - so a few of us have been thinking of a good social event with which to send him off. A Saturday evening trip to Tsukuba mountain should be fun this time of the year. Loads of Touge cars there and maybe a bit of drifting too!

Anyone up for it? Probably Aug 26th in the late evening we'll drive up there.
Should be a fun social event - from 12pm arrival, to around 3am departure.

We met Josh at the RX-7 meet on 7th July. Not sure if you've met him before.

I'll be taking the RX-7 and the AE86, probably... For a bit of grip & a bit of drift :)

We've tried filming before in Touge at night.... Problem is this is countryside with no street lighting at all. Video would only show brake lights and headlights, with a view of the car in front if the camera's mounted forward facing. Not good enough for Newera Media DVD quality, but for fun video clips should be OK :D :D

If Josh brings his Hatchi, he'll probably drift the Touge circuit too, although that might annoy the locals, especially as there's cars coming the other way!!

Sounds like this might turn into a bit of a touge event of our own, at this rate though - A good way to send off the guys back to England And Aus!

I guess if there's lots of us going, we can meet somewhere in Tsukuba near the highway exit and go together from there....
I'll probably go there on the bike one evening during the week of 20 Aug to scout out where to meet, where the Touge is and how to get there.... It's been around 2 years since I last went up the mountain...

Will be cool to do something where we can all actually drive the cars and socialise too!

Just had a look at the weather forecast for Saturday:

Saturday: Scattered showers and thunderstorms. High near 80F. Winds ENE at 10 to 15 mph. Chance of rain 60%.

Better to wait for another better night, as even if it's not raining, the roads will possibly be wet. Also, Josh can't make it as it's the D1 weekend, so presumably others like DCD, etc. can't make it either. Finally, after 2 weeks holiday away with a late return due to food poisoning on my last day, I'm absolutely snowed under with work!

Maybe the 2nd weekend of September will have better weather.
Sorry to dissapoint.

Miguel.
