Guys

From Ireland - thinking of buying an 2014 GTR. Cant really get Super Unleaded here - only 95RON at pumps.

Advice appreciated.

95 RON ok?

Octane Boosters (brands ok to use?)

Thanks

Bog standard from the factory it requires 99 octane. If you run 95 it will be pulling the timing back on the knock sensor. Not good.

With an Ecutek tune you have 4 maps, 1 of which is the 95 Ron with the timing correctly retarded to stop knocking but you can feel how much power you loose.

I would check with an NHPC before using the lower octane, and get it in writing.

Nissan will use any riggle room they can if a problem develops.

Nissan HPC at Colliers replied to me. Says "it has to be Super Unleaded".

I've used octane boosters before. Think it would be hard to prove fault on petrol?? What if the garage sold as super but only was unleaded???

Any more advice or experience appreciated.

Thanks in advance

You're from NI, we can easily get 97 here, all over the place. I always use BT Ultimate in both my cars, High comp NA motor and high power RB26, its not 98 or 99 octane, but it better than 95.

I'm from west west Tyrone. Super unleaded like hens teeth - hard to find. Don't want to drive 120mile round trip to get a tank full. Be empty by time I get back!! Lol

Spend time in South Ireland as well. No super there except for only 1 I know of which is 60 miles from our house in South!!

Spent 3 months looking and now ready to buy but never thought this would be an issue ??

I didn't realise it was hard to get in other parts. Never actually realised they didn't have it south of the border, never had to fill up either of my cars while there, will need to keep that in mind with the 260Z GTR if I'm ever heading to Mondello.

Only thing you can do is put a big heating oil size in your garden/driveway and get a lorry to fill it up every couple of months. lol

did a road trip in southern Ireland a few years back in the old gtr and had to use octane booster, never found a garage selling super in a week.

wonder what the reason for that is?

didn't have a problem running with octane booster but wouldn't like to do it all the time.

Hi,

Also running mine in N.Ireland and like EF Ian, i've no problem finding Super Unleaded 97 octance fuel.

Don't have much experience of what tuning can be done to run wth lower Octane levels, but you should have a chat with either SVM or Litchfields.

Hope you get sorted.

Octane booster would be fine.

Low octane causes explosions rather than burn. If it happens badly it will shatter the Pistons like a hammer. Pretty easy to see I'm afraid.

Go with the booster at the right mix and no problem.

A pain but will be fine.

Thanks.

Any recommendations for octane booster?
Sorry mate, never bought it, but I would suggest trying to get to a wholesaler or better still direct to a manufacturer or the cost will be a pain.

Google search and perhaps tuners or race teams?

If they know the volume you will be using you may be able to get it direct.

Done a deal today on a 64 reg with 1200 miles. White.

Litchfield sending ypipe to Dealer to fit tomorrow. Collecting Thurs :) Long trip back to Ireland.

Ian at Litchfield was most helpful. Remap to 95Ron is an option but will void warranty. He assured me that Millars Octane Booster is my plan. I've used this stuff before on an STI Subaru - all good. Ian was just the guy I needed to speak to. Very independent even though could have convinced me to remap. I like these guys at Litchfield :bowdown1:

I'll be able to fill the odd tank with Super and for when I am stuck, can use the Octane Booster. Need to order stock of it now:)

So nary to resurrect, but

I was wondering how you get on with it. I'm in Jersey and have the same problem. Whilst it's available it's like 70% more expensive than 95 ron! :tard:

I don't mind doing the odd fill, but thinking using booster might be a more economical solution!

I dont do big miles. So I have a few 20 litre jars that I fill with super when passing the pumps on work round trips. Does me all my miles. On occasion I get the gtr to the pumps. So mine runs on super all the time. I bought the octane booster at the start but didn't think it did the job. Could feel down on power still from the super but was defo better than the 1 time I had to put ordinary unleaded in her!! Felt like 400 hp!!!

Give her the good stuff. I know it's more expensive but your gtr will thank you for it.

Wow, can't believe they don't sell 99 ron fuel, and hardly any 97 ron super. Is it some sort of EU bullshit regulation?

Well, you can get the 97 RON in Northern Ireland (not so sure about availability of 99 RON) but its less common as you get closer to the border with the Republic of Ireland. In Belfast for example, no problem. In West Northern Ireland, problem. Only a handful of garages do it.

In the Republic of Ireland, I'd say maybe 15 years ago the government taxed the sh!t out of Super Unleaded, and then because cars that needed it were so expensive due to VRT and Road tax, the market for it became small, so much so that service stations stopped supplying it as there was no profit in it - not enough demand. It was a snowball effect. So in the Republic of Ireland now you all but cannot get it. I spoke to a few garages once who thought about it, but just said there wasn't enough demand particularly based on the high price as the level of tax on it is crazy.

Its a balls for anyone who drives a sports car.

There's two BP garages within 2 miles of me (5 miles north of Chester). One has never sold 97 and now the other one which always used to, has just stopped selling it as well (last 2 months or so). Maybe they too think demand is failing ?
