I was dead set on getting V-Cam but in the end went for a flowed head and taking the engine to 2,800cc.

Now my car spools so well I'm not sure what the gains from V-Cam would be.

When I run out of things to do I will consider it, but I am not sure if it's really worth doing when I already have mental performance from 3,500rpm.

You would probably have performance from 3000rpm and for longer with a v cam. Like said though is it worth the £4k!

At the price of 4k no I'm sure there's more things richard could do to his head for less for same gains


There is only so much you can do to the head and once it's done it's done. Trying to replicate what a v cam can do is not possible as far as I know. How else can you control the valve timing in this way to gain a maximum torque curve throughout the Rev range?

It becomes a point were 10mm lift isn't enough, if it had more lift and wasn't a rip off price of consider the pro kit but the price is a joke and only being available with fcon is another joke
As mentioned above it's made using Subaru parts, I'm sure with a bit of "Kiwi Ingenuity" it could be made without the huge price tag.....we even have one of the world leading cam manufacturers in my city (Kelford Camtech)

I would be interested if it was at a reasonable price but I would want a bit lift cam around 12mm

I like the thoughts and ideas so far. My general feelings are:

- VVT is better than no VVT.
- No way I can afford VCam hence why starting the thread.
- I understand headwork.
- I have not seen a OEM VVT system that rev's high, eg over 9k rpm. There must be one.

You are right but what I'm saying is the vcam has only 10.2mm lift how would that compare to the biggest lift cam you could possible fit in a rb26 head? I no of course there's more to it like duration ramp rate etc that will be the way I go when my engine comes out anyway.

Unless Chris can get a cheap vcam kit going with a nice cam size

Honda k20 do not from factory but stock engines do. I'm not sure what kind of cam you could fit with a rb25 neo head but I'm pretty sure it's nothing massive.

Mmm, I don't think the gay 1000hp cliche comes into it.

So say you can't make 1000hp with V-Cam is a totally pointless comment. HKS are looking for overall drivability and extracting the best performance possable from an engine. The only way to do it is VVT. Ideally on both cams.
The CAS makes it difficult to do on the exhaust wheel.

Indeed im happy with my 650fltbs at 4k revs
This is only at 1.4 bar

1000bhp is just a goal something i doubt ill ever get on pump fuel

I already have a flowed AMT head on an RB28.
Makes around 440-450lb'ft from around 3,300rpm.
My car was built for drivability and a wide powerband.

Was just curious what the benefits would be on a car like mine.

So potentially it would spool up a little bit quicker ?

Yes I no mate and you have a brilliant package, but there's still more what could be done like bigger valves bigger cams etc although no one would be sure of the gains and for what you have now there isn't much point.

Ron raves about your car and from a guy what's been in lots of skylines that speaks volumes

You always have to set targets in life, if they are set to easy would be pretty boring!

I dont see why its not possible to hit 1000bhp on the pro ive ran 750 on the step 1...

I will have them map the car on race fuel... Watch this space

I would like to see it on a efr9180 but personally I don't think there up to it I'm not to sure if mine will make 800 on a 4wd dyno dynamics on pump fuel
