Lets say a 2001 manufactured car was imported to the UK in 2004 from Japan.

Would the registration mark be a 01/51 registration number to reflect the age of the car?
Or would it be an 04/54 registration number to reflect the date that the car was imported?

Or could it be either?

Cheers

Hmmm.

I'm looking at a car at the moment in England. Not in Ireland. Although think that the car originally came from Scotland.

It's a 2001 manufactured car, but has a 2004 plate on it - as that is when it was first imported into the country.

Could it happen and be kosher? Or does it sound dodgy?

Answer is the importer should declare the 'first manufactured' date and it should be dated from that, not date of import.

In reality quite a few imports get a later plate put on. I am not sure of the legality of it, but I've never heard of one being taken away subsequently.
