I guess when the R34 GTR gets to three there will be more available 2nd hand in Japan (due to the Shaken). So the question is how long will I have to wait for a three year old model? And did they sell a lot when they were launched or did they take a while for the first customer cars to be delivered?

Regards,

Jon

The R34 GTR shipped from January 8th 1999 so you dont need to wait too long.

Regarding the sales figures;
Upto the end of Oct 2001; 9334 have been sold.
3000 of that number were sold before the end of April 99, so a lot will be up for the shaken soon....

the shaken

Hi chaps. I have a vague idea about this but what is The Shaken. If it affects cars older than three years, how come there are loads of R32's in Japan?

Shaken

"Shaken" (Japanese car test)

In Japan, cars must pass a test every two years called "Shaken". It is a total car test and it is designed to keep un-roadworthy cars off the road and aids in the turnover of newer vehicles.
If you have perfectly maintained car, you have to pay about US$1,000 for
Shaken! This price does not include consumption parts or the repair fee. On the whole, most people don't maintain their own cars. Shaken is the only time many japanese car owners have maintenance performed on their cars. Almost all cars put through Shaken are done so by car dealers.

Shaken costs are comprised of:

- Basic inspection technical fee 35,000Yen
- Weight tax (below 1000kg) 25,200Yen
- Compulsory insurance 28,450Yen
- Shaken act fee 8,000Yen
- Consumption tax 5%

Total = 101,482Yen

If your car needs some repairs, add the costs to the total.

The Shaken tests include:
(1) Speedometer test
(2) Static Brake test
(3) Front wheel alignment test
(4) Exhaust gas test (CO, NOx)
(5) Head light beam angle test
(6) Maintenance check by official inspector.
(7) others

Modifications are not looked upon lightly by Shaken officers.

Hope this helps

Just a couple of other points;

The first shaken is after 3 years, then they are every 2 years until the car is over 10 years old when it is supposed to be every year.

There is some safety merit in the shaken but it is mainly a cozy method to turn over new cars.

Oh, and the weight tax on on r34 is more like 70000 yen
