Well I've moved into my new place, and there's a parking space waiting to be used.... :)

The IDP is still being processed, but there's no harm in having a look around and seeing what's out there.

Can anyone recommend any garages or auctions where I can look? Any tips?

I also need a Gaijin friendly insurance company, any recommendations?

Cheers,

Nick

Congrats on the place Nick :)

I don't know any particularly gaijin friendly insurance companies, but I can at least help you go through the same company as me if you are stuck.

If you want to go the auction route then talk to Miguel @ NewEra, otherwise Zele for the top quality standard-ish examples or just trawl carsensor.net or Nissan's Used car site.
Other good GTR dealers are Best-R and Freed-R.
Think TS still have a big power car for sale.

Let me know if I can help.

Thanks Bean, I'll have a look at those sites.

I need to get an idea of how much I'm looking at for insurance, as I'm only familar with prices within the UK. Can I get an online quote from them, or do they have operators that speak English?

Do you have any details on the TS car? I know when we last spoke you said the spec they sent was a little vague....

Well done on getting the place sorted, Nick.
What route will you take with the R34 though, big spec from the off, or get a good quality low mile example and build to your own spec like Cem did.

The Best-R, Freed-R and Zele sites are great  I'll go down there for a look around.

I've also read about a company called ICS who have a couple of dealers in Tokyo and Yokohama, do they have a webpage?

I'll also contact Miguel, follow up on our chat at the dyno day.

Having spent a fortune on the Supra, I'm looking for an R34 that I'll be happy with after I've driven it home. Looking for a top quality, impeccably maintained car with tasteful mods and not too wild power wise, although the TS car does intrigue me....

I don't suppose you want to sell your purple GTR Bean? ;)

The money on the Supra was well spent though Nick.
Wasn't throwing out "ridiculous" power so as a bahnstormer it was fantastic.
A pox on you for beating my Calais - Breda time though :)

I'm sure you'll get a lot of help from the guys sourcing a well specced R34though Bean might consider going by train so he can keep hold of his car keys :D

IIRC insurance on a BNR34 when I had zero driving record in Japan was about 180k yen.
Insurance will be no problem really - it only gets annoying after you mod the car because I can't find anyone to take into account the value of the mods.

Which purple one Nick ? - they both are now...

The car that TS are selling is, to be honest, probably a bit more modified than it sounds like you want.
IIRC it was twin 3040s on a 2.8 bottom end. F40 brakes. Forged mag TE37s  and so on.
If you prefer something like the one I took you out in then that's too far up the power scale for you.

PM me your email address and I'll send you any links to similar GTRs I see.

Sorry, forgot to mention that ICS went bust a while back.

for insurance : http://www.aiu.co.jp/index.htm

never had a problem with AIU insurance, decent prices IMHO.

Went to ICS ages ago, some nice modded cars. Have a story
about about that place, but to make a long story short:
My friend and I went window shopping after closing and the
security company called the police on us. I thought it was a
pre-recorded message playing through the loud speaker---oops.
Seems like the whole precinct (sp?) came out, thought we were gonna
boost some GTR's - lol. As we were leaving, after about 1 hour
of questioning, the owner rolled up to check his cars. There was 1
car i had my eye on, but had to wait about a week before returning,
to let things cool down. Weav808 was with me that night.

When I went back they had a nice R32 V Spec II with 6km on it,
still smelled brand new, i did not even ask how much they wanted
for it.

Good news on the new place Nick. I woulnd't bother with King Buyer. I had to deal with them a few years ago and they were useless. Their cars are not that great either IMO....

Like Bean said....have a look at all the specialists and carsensor. Insurance varies a lot on area but if you are over 28 it gets more sensible

i have not heard too much about king buyer, but if i had
the money, I would go with Zele. Top Notch GTR's, but in stock
format, unless NISMO'd out

Thanks guys.

The insurance should be ok then, I'm 31 and living in what's considered a nice part of Yokohama.

Zele, Best-R and Freed-R have some nice examples for sale so I'll try and take a look. I can't make any sense of the Carsensor or AIU site, I've only been learning Japanese for 3 weeks.... Probably best if I give them a call :)

Sending you a PM now Bean....

Many thanks to Bean for a long, mouth watering list of GTR's for sale....

matty32 - You could say that ! I've never seen so many stunning GTR's in one day :)

bkvj - I haven't had any quotes yet, but going on what others have told me it seems so. I hope the fact I'm going to be using an International Driving Permit for a while won't be an issue.

Nick, Try "Zurich" for insurance. They're pretty good but do insist the person calling is a contact you can use should you ever need to make a claim. They won't cover you if you call yourself (Only Japanese Speakers).

Zele & stuff will be top quality bgyt dollar cars. Top quality can be had from the auctions too - but will save you typically around 25-35%. There's other costs involved with Shaken & Registration too, which the sticker price doesn't usually show at dealers.

Miguel.

Thanks Miguel.

Are the garages opening to negotiation on the price, or is it a case of the asking price is the asking price?

Do you come across many quality R34's in the auctions?
