Normally from my experience HKS, Blitz, Greddy etc are smaller than stock filters

 

I use a hks hybrid filter on top of a hks thermo sandwich plate on mine and yes it's half the size of the original but it's not a problem. As long as the thread pitch and seal size is the same it will be fine.

 

My greddy one was smaller too. Made it a lot easier to change without the relocation kit! Kinda spooked me at first, but all is well.

 

Stick to the OEM Nissan filter!

 

I wouldn't recommend it. I put one on my car last week, and was a little hesitant about it upon noticing the anti-drainback flappy thing inside the filter. I don't like the look of it being something the oil pressure has to overcome. It may be just my imagination, or been there all along but the RB now sounds a little bit tappy for one second on hot start up. It seems to me like having this flap in the HKS filter has added a latency in the build-up of pressure when starting the engine.

I'll be fitting a Nissan filter ASAP to see if it's any better. That and the HKS filter being smaller means that there's likely less surface area inside for the oil to be forced through, meaning more of a pressure drop over a bigger standard filter.

 

There are people who like those and people who don't!

The filter includes a magnet inside the housing which is not bad at all as it catches the chips immediately.
However, if you have a high revving engine, with a bigger oilpump which is capable of moving a higher oil capacity per time, this filter is a restriction in the system and might lead to rod bearings not being lubricated correctly.

The Nissan filter will be the best bet buddy, works out much cheaper and the quality is better than the HKS one, it's also bigger!

Cheers for the advice got a genuine Nissan one for running the engine in then was going to fit the hks one. Might just get another Nissan one for when it's run in and sell the hks one. I'm running a tomie oil pump so the restriction might not be good as I already have a choke in the oil way.

I recently got a couple of nismo oil filters, they weren't that dear and I was ordering other stuff from rhd japan anyway

does anyone have any experience with these?
is there any difference in the filter or are they just a standard one with a fancy paint job?
I will be using these on a "fast road" set up rb25

also, don't want to start a fight but, other than oil pump any recommendations on worthwhile mods for the oil system?

 

I used a hks filter £45worth of oil, started car had a weird noise so switched ignition off looked to see what it was and the filter had come off and oil every where , so I used another hks filter and same again, so I bought a cheap one and everything is fine

its a very good filter upgrade.

 

Make sure you pick the right one indeed, there are 4 different versions available.

We sell 1000's of these a year and haven't had any bad comments on them before. Personally i've used them on my own cars for the last 6 years.

 

In what way do you mean pick the right one? I have a normal Nissan one that could still be fitted or one of these sat there too. Not even run the car in yet so still thinking on it. Seems like a lot of mixed opinions, like I said running a Tomie oil pump if that changes anything.
