Nice looking kit Red Duke - thanks for posting the pictures.

Interesting part numbers on the coil boxes (I'm currently looking for 1 or 2 used coils for a side project so I've looked at lots of numbers recently).

I thought Nissan VR coils ended in JF00B (or the hitachi versions ending in ICG0079). The part number on the box - ending JA10C, appears to be for VQ 3.5 engines (350z, Altima, Maxima etc).

Is the same number on the coil too ?

Basically, if it's good enough for platinum racing, it's good enough for me :)

Cheers
Darren
They have the longer stalk compared to VR. Hitachi versions IGC0079 are the same as OEM Hanshin being a Hitachi subsidiary. 0009 are VQ/VK versions and have the same out from what we have researched. Not sure about these EA000 maybe they have same output maybe not. Have no data for these personally. The heads look the same.

Nice to get a reply from Herman - after sales service counts for a lot I think.

That's a good video. I've also watched the one about case differences and found that very informative too.

Interesting about the 22448 part number. A lot of nissans (some Peugeot too) use the 22448 variant that appears similar (the horizontal plug type head) apart from the stalk/stem.

Would Nissan essentially use the same coil head on the Micra all the way up to GT-R ? Surely there's some difference in output ?

FRRACER - have you ever tested any 22448 coils that are for a smaller engine but look the same head that DONT give the same results ?

For reference, here's a picture of a 22448 - AX001 for a micra. Coil head looks familiar huh (well it would if I could post the image - JPEG has incorrect file extension - was a screen shot from my phone)

Mine has a different reference, AIC-5408 as opposed to the Micra AIC-6207G. So there is a difference in that respect, not sure what it all means though tbh!

They're working on a new reference sheet for improved dwell times now too, hopefully be ready soon. :)

Dwell times cannot be changed from what is their ideal. Coils work best at what is suggested from the factory. If different coils need different dwell times they are not the same as VR.

Sorry, his exact words were "hit me up for the new dwell table we're working on now" - Not dwell times, my mistake. :)

This is a dwell chart they sent me. It means nothing to me but I'm sure my mapper will when it goes in for it later in the year
Yes, that's what I've got too - they're working on a new version according to Herman.I'll drop him an email nearer the time when I get my kit in and car mapped. Can't wait! :D

Thanks for giving me another number to obsess over :chuckle:

I can find AIC mentioned but not exactly what it means. 22448.... seems to be the part number but I'm thinking AIC may be batch, serial or production number for traceability purposes - only a guess though.

Seems an oscilloscope is required for proper testing of coils (which I don't have) otherwise I'd buy a couple of different ones and check their performance.

Seems the best bet is to buy a kit from a reputable manufacturer such as PRP or Supertec and just go with the coils that are supplied, regardless of what they may be originally for.

I can't find any information about which 22448 coils DONT work, only that GT-R coils DO work, and work very well too. Who knows, it may just be a big cover up and the sellers of these kits secretly know that all the 22448 coil heads with horizontal plugs all output the same and we are just paying extra GT-R tax :chuckle:

Very pleased with it! I'll get it fitted in the spring hopefully along with a few other bits I've bought and get my map redone at the same time. :)
This is a very good looking kit.

Well presented on motive dvd as well! Actually unsure if i will put my cover back on after I get the kit, quite like the look of it especially in black!

So is a remap essential or can you plug and play?

Ekjim, I've read posts from both camps that say yes, you should and others, no, you don't need to! Doesn't really help! Lol

I've also read not setting the dwell times properly can lead to more heat and shorter coil life, adjusting them to suit the coil should give a better burn, and I'm assuming more power and MPG? I'm going to get my car remapped anyway as I'll be changing a lot of parts, might be worth asking your tuner / mapper?

Sorry to bring up the old thread, what happens with your ignition amplifier? Does this kit do away with it?

Some data from Hitachi. Amazing what we learn over time and not to listen to hear say. I was always told they are all the same. I looking into this and asked Hitachi directly and below was their reply in form of a test they carried out at my request.

22448-JA10C cross references to Hitachi IGC0003. Hitachi Europe part # 250-3902 (133902) for 350Z and Infiniti V6 variants.

For reference 133953 is Hitachi IGC0079/ OEM 22448-JF00B - R35 GTR/VR38.
