R34 GTR side window motor - access?

Hi

My drivers side electric window motor seems to be on the way out so I thought I would open it up and check if a DIY fix is possible.

The panel/trim came off without to much bother but getting to the motor and mechanism seems to be impossible due to it being behind the inner metal door skin which does not seem to unbolt and in fact seems to be spot welded to the outer door skin.

Does anyone have any advice on how to get the motor and mechanism out?

Thanks
Stretch

I had a similar problem, i thought it may have fused. After checking fuses and everything was fine i then thought i'd see where the cable was going through and to see if there had been any breaks.

Luckily none were broken, if you open you drivers door you'll see the wiring sometimes i think it just gets caught and can become loose from the switch.

What you need to do...

From what i can remember you can pop off the drivers side panel where the switches are located on check all the connections.

No need to remove any door cards etc...

Hope this helps

The windows still goes up and down, but really slowly about half way up. Sounds like it is straining to get the window all the way up

So the connections are all OK but it may be an issue with something stuck or more than likely the motor is on its last legs.
Either way i need to access it to continue diagnosis.

Hey mate, really hadn't noticed you were a fellow kiwi. Do try it put mate, the tracks do get quite dry over the years and tend to put extra pressure on the motor and finally the motor wears out.

Use the very small straw that comes with CRC cans on your silicone spray can to get it right in the middle of those tracks. It saves getting the silicone everywhere too.

OK so i had some good success with oiling the tracks so think that may well be the issues.
I will clean them out and pickup some white lithium grease for a long term solution.
Ill confirm after I have done that.

As for the access issue I originally asked about, it not looked like you are meant to unbolt the parts and pull them out through the access hold in the door skin.

I keep being amazed by how "over engineered" the GTR is compared to regular cars :)
